My cat's nose is always wet, but she seems healthy. Is this normal?

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 11 months and 17 days old | 5.5 lbs

Why does my cat have a wet nose? She is very healthy, does not sneeze or cough, but her little nose has been cold and wet most of her life. Does she have a bit of dog in her? (just kidding!)

It's normal for a cat to have a wet nose! It can go from wet and cold to dry and warm just by laying in the sun or next to a heat source. The temperature and humidity in a room or the outdoors can influence a cat's nose to be wet or dry. Unless you are seeing excess discharge from Uli's nose, I would not worry about it :-)

Cats typically have a wet nose, this is perfectly normal. Now if it's wetter than usual, it could be that Mufasa has an upper respiratory infection causing nasal discharge, and leading his nose to be wetter than normal. In that case, he should see a vet. Best of luck.

That could be completely normal unless there is proper discharge coming out (which would be a sign of an upper respiratory tract infection/inflammation or rhinitis) and more signs like sneezing and coughing.

A dry nose in and of itself is not a health concern in a cat as moisture on the nose can normally vary. It may get more dry due to weather, lying in the sun, changes in air circulation in the house, etc. if the skin appears normal/no scabbing or nasal discharge then I would just monitor for any changes.

A warm nose isn't a sign of illness. A cat's nose can go from wet and cold to warm and dry just by laying in the sun or next to a heat source. Since Jimi is otherwise acting normally, I would not worry.

Hi and thanks for posting! Common signs of an upper respiratory infection in cats may be sneezing, coughing, labored breathing or increased respiratory effort, nasal discharge, and ocular discharge. While having a dry nose may not necessarily mean anything significant, the nose being warmer than usual may indicate an elevated body temperature or fever. If Puma continues to have a very warm nose or is also experiencing other changes such as decreased appetite, lethargy, or is experiencing any of the above signs of an upper respiratory infection I indicated, you may want to take Puma into see his veterinarian for an exam and evaluation.

My cat's nose is dry and hard. Is this normal if he's not sick?

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. This could be an indication of a systemic illness such as discoid lupus. This could also be a response to environmental change (dry air, warm temperature, etc.). If he is otherwise doing well, I would recommend trying a moisturizing balm such as BioBalm by Dermoscent, which can be found online quite easily. I would give this 1-2 months to see if it works. If there is no change, then I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Logan so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps! Thank you for submitting your question regarding Jackson. I recommend monitoring if he is eating, drinking and playing. Make sure that he is not sneezing and does not have nasal discharge. If so, these are reasons to see his veterinarian. If the nose cracked and/or bleeding, then he needs to see his veterinarian as well. Otherwise a dry nose does not typically mean anything specific. My cat gets a clear runny nose in cold weather. What should I do?

If your kitty has no problems breathing, and if the discharge stays clear, then you do not have to do anything. The next time she has that discharge, take her temperature and if it is 102F or higher you should monitor her for lethargy or not eating, as she may have a viral infection. If the discharge is purulent (yellow or green) she needs to be seen by a veterinarian.
