Why does my cat's nose run and drip when purring? Is it normal?

Some cats can become so relaxed when they are happy and purring that their mouth relaxes and it leads them to drool. I had a cat who did this whenever she was relaxed and happy. She would also leave a huge wet spot on your lap! It is common that some cats drool when they are happy and it is normal. I would not worry about it if it only happens when Penny purrs :-)

It's normal for a cat to have a wet nose! It can go from wet and cold to dry and warm just by laying in the sun or next to a heat source. The temperature and humidity in a room or the outdoors can influence a cat's nose to be wet or dry. Unless you are seeing excess discharge from Uli's nose, I would not worry about it :-)

If your kitty has no problems breathing, and if the discharge stays clear, then you do not have to do anything. The next time she has that discharge, take her temperature and if it is 102F or higher you should monitor her for lethargy or not eating, as she may have a viral infection. If the discharge is purulent (yellow or green) she needs to be seen by a veterinarian.

That could happen especially with kitten when they get excited or they start purring. Unfortunately there is not much you can do as this behaviour is unlikely to be pathological but rather completely normal and Rocky may grow out of it. It is possible that she is suffering from an upper respiratory infection that may be viral and/or bacterial in origin. If you believe that she is not having difficulty breathing (ie, has a respiratory rate of less than 40 at rest and is not using her belly to help her breathe), she is eating normally, drinking, urinating and defecating normally, and has a normal energy level, you may be able to monitor her at home. Sometimes, keeping her in the bathroom while you run a hot shower can help clear her sinuses. If you notice any purulent (yellow, thick, foul-smelling) discharge from either her eyes or nose, I recommend having her seen by a veterinarian to be examined and treated. I hope this is helpful!

If they are otherwise fine, then no I wouldn't be too worried. They both may have a runny nose causing this behavior. If they start acting sick, then I would be worried and have them seen by a vet.
