Can cats go for walks outside? What leash or harness is best?

It may take some time and patience to train your cat to feel comfortable on a leash. You first need to put the harness on him inside and let him get used to it. Once he is comfortable with the harness than you can attach the leash and let him drag it around the house while you supervise. Once he feels comfortable dragging the leash than you can hold the leash and follow him around. After that, carry him outside and try him in the backyard. I recommend foods that follow WSAVA guidelines which includes Hill’s Science Diet, Purina, Royal Canin, Iams and Eukanuba. There is some evidence that wet food may have some health benefits - many cats do best on a combo. I would recommend using mealtime to help get her used to having he harness out on. If it’s possible to put it on in stages you could slowly get her used to it. If you're interested in leash-training Sofia, you'll want to do so gradually. Starting with short outings in the yard, you can then work up to going on longer trips. Signs she is interested in doing this can include wandering around and exploring, walking alongside you, etc. If she is tugging on the leash to try and get back inside, trying to escape her harness, or is digging in her claws and not wanting to move, she is likely not enjoying it and you should take a break.

The best would be never to let your cat outdoors as this increases the chances of run ins with cars, dogs & other cats. But once a cat is comfortable in a home, they very rarely leave, unless something happens. Make sure Luna is spayed, & consider placing a microchip in her. That way, if she does slip off, any veterinarian or shelter can scan her & get her back home to you quickly. Hope this helps. Take care.

You should only be able to fit 2 fingers underneath. You should be able to find a harness in her size. If you are going to leave it on all the time I typically then recommend a breakaway collar. That way if she gets it caught on something it automatically breaks. If it is just to go outside with you then a harness is a great idea, just make sure you remove it when you are done.
