My 7-month-old cat walks weird, butt up. Is she in heat or hurt?

It could be that Misty is in heat! Being more vocal, and lifting her butt up with her tail to the side are signs of heat. If she isn't spayed, that's the more likely explanation for her behavior. If you don't want kittens, I would keep her indoors and away from intact male cats, and have her spayed once her heat is over in three weeks.

Increased vocalization, ‘presenting’ her genitalia /arching her back, and often increased affection are typical signs of estrus/heat in cats which typically first starts after 6 months of age. Each heat cycle lasts around 5-6 days and unspayed cats typically come back into heat every 2-3 weeks. Nara has an odd posture to her back and based upon the way she is standing, I suspect she is either in heat or she has an injury to her back. If you are familiar with cats, you can generally tell if they are in heat by the behavior. You may want to do some reading about this. It could be possible that Panda is in heat causing these symptoms you are seeing displayed. In the spring time, cats cycle quickly, and they go out of heat for a time period as short as one to two weeks. It could be she is going in and out of heat. Of course because I can't see her in person, I can't say this for certain, and there is a possibility that she may have pain in her back or hips causing this behavior. To be safe, I do think a visit with the vet is best just to make sure everything is ok. In my opinion, it's better to pay the fee to see a find and find nothing wrong, than not visit the vet and have it be something serious. Best of luck!
