Can I give my vomiting, dehydrated cat on IV fluids food or broth?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

My cat is on IV fluids due to severe dehydration, is it wise to give her ORS or other supplements/food e.g. Chicken broth with the treatment. She has been vomiting which has caused the dehydration. Please note that she is very weak due to an infection.

The cause of the vomiting must also be established - parasites, foreign body, virus, etc. I would not recommend giving anything orally if your cat is still actively vomiting. I assume that your vet has examined your cat and performed some diagnostics if she has been hospitalized for IV fluids.
