My cat has food poisoning, sore throat, won't eat/drink. How to help?

The cause of the vomiting must also be established - parasites, foreign body, virus, etc. I would not recommend giving anything orally if your cat is still actively vomiting. I assume that your vet has examined your cat and performed some diagnostics if she has been hospitalized for IV fluids. A high calorie liquid diet such as viyo recuperation or royal canin gastrointestinal liquid diets are the easiest for her to digest when recovering, as well as oral electrolyte (salt and sugar solutions) which can be offered for her to drink or syringe fed. If the vomiting is still persistent she will require injectable fluids and nausea medications by your vet

Stopping the diarrhea usually requires stopping the cause of the diarrhea. In a young cat, it is often an infection that causes them to stop eating/drinking with diarrhea. However, this can happen with other illnesses or poisoning. Diarrhea is actually beneficial with infections, because it's the body's way of getting rid of the toxin/disease. And, most diarrhea resolves on its own within three days. The concerning thing with Samantha's case is that she could quickly become dehydrated if she is not drinking and continues having diarrhea. If this continues for more than a day, then she will need to go to the vet for an evaluation and treatment to keep this from being a serious problem. Other criteria for going to the vet are as follows: 1) Blood in diarrhea 2) Very watery diarrhea 3) She starts acting very depressed 4) Diarrhea lasts longer than three days You can help her get through this by feeding bland food (boneless chicken and tuna is good). If a veterinary consultation is not an option,as a first line treatment, I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. Cats cannot go more than a few days without eating. They will start by doing a physical exam and will likely recommend lab work to see how her organs are functioning and the status of her red and white blood cells. They may also run a thyroid test to determine if it’s over-active. The vet may need to take radiographs of her abdomen to rule out a foreign object or other abnormalities. Destiny may be dehydrated from the vomiting. If the veterinarian did not administer fluids under the skin already, I would recommend calling the vet back and seeing if this is something that can be done or if it is something that needs to be done. Without knowing what specific poison Kiki was exposed to it's impossible to give specific advice but I'm happy your vet thought he would be fine! It is important to make sure he is eating and drinking with no vomiting or lethargy that could indicate symptoms of poisoning. You can mix a little water in with his wet food to encourage more water consumption. Continue feeding canned cat food as this is the most nutritious option (better than chicken). Hope this helps!
