My 6-month-old cat is vomiting with high liver enzymes. What to do?

It is perfectly ok to syringe feed him> His liver values are borderline, ie they are high, but not extremely high. Your kitty may not be eating voluntarily because he may be nauseous and generally not feel well. I suggest you take him to your vet with all the paperwork you received from the emergency vet, and have Hulu rechecked. Hulu may need medication for his nausea, an appetite stimulant and possibly other medications/fluids to improve his wellbeing. He may also have to eat a liver diet or gastrointestinal diet for a while, such as a/d.

I am sorry for the delay in answering your question... I hope that Iomy is feeling better! Based on his xray, it does appear that his liver may be a bit enlarged. If he is still showing symptoms of illness, ask your family veterinarian about an abdominal ultrasound. This may help clarify what the problem is and what your options are. Also, if blood tests haven't been done that would also be helpful. If this medication was prescribed by your veterinarian and your cat is still vomiting despite the medication then I would seek veterinary care immediately. If the medication was NOT prescribed by your veterinarian then please do not give any more, and take your cat in for evaluation. You do not mention how old the kitty is-any number of issues could be going on. A foreign body obstruction in the intestinal tract, a gastrointestinal infection, dietary indiscretion, a cancerous process, even renal failure can cause the symptoms you have noted. Your cat needs a thorough physical exam and your vet May recommend some diagnostics such as xrays and bloodwork. I hope your kitty feels better soon.

I recommend getting your cat seen by your vet or an emergency vet right away. Cats need to eat, if they go more than a few days without eating they can develop serious liver problems which can be fatal. Continuous vomiting for so many hours is very exhausting and dehydrating, so your kitten likely needs some medical intervention to get better. Your vet will do an exam, labwork, possibly x-rays, and based on these results, your vet will have a better idea what is going on and can better advise you about treatment options.

Hi there. Sorry about what's happened to your poor kitties, especially Axel. It sounds like something to do with the food, I agree with you. Every now and then a bag will spoil or have a tiny hole in it or something while it's stored and mice and things can get in there and make a mess. This can lead to bacterial overgrowth or fermenting of the food which can make your animals sick. If you ever heard of certain products being recalled (especially for babies) pet food is no exception. Make sure there isn't a recall on what you're currently feeding. Give a call to your pet food company as well. Sometimes they have insight beyond this and often will replace the bag of food for you. If Axel is still actively vomiting it would probably be best to have him seen by your veterinarian-if he has ingested spoiled food he can become quite ill, as some animals are more sensitive than others. Your doctor can give him something for nausea and keep him hydrated with subcutaneous or iv fluids. I hope this helps you! I hope he feels better soon!

I'm sorry to hear that Louie isn't feeling well! Profuse vomiting and a loss of appetite in a young cat are most suspicious for either a foreign body intestinal obstruction, parasites or virus. Due to the likelihood of dehydration with this much vomiting and possible obstruction, I recommend taking Louie to his vet fairly urgently for evaluation. He will likely need abdominal x-rays and may need IV fluids or surgery if foreign material is suspected in his intestines. I hope that all goes well!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Levi. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian again. He will need a thorough work up to determine the cause of all of his vomiting. I would recommend x-rays of his belly and blood work including testing for pancreatitis. Is there a chance he has eaten a foreign object such as a piece of toy? This can cause profuse vomiting.
