Why is my 18-year-old cat vomiting, eating fast, and head bobbing?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Tigger. He needs to see his veterinarian. A week is a long time for him to be experiencing vomiting and diarrhea. He could have an intestinal infection, inflammation, a dietary problem or an internal disease such as pancreatitis or a thyroid disorder. In the meantime, continue to encourage him to drink water so that he does not become dehydrated. Offer very small amounts of food as little meals are less likey to upset the stomach. That is definitely a top thought with what you are describing. A simple blood test can confirm this. Other options do include gastroenteritis or an inflammatory bowel disease also so an ultrasound would be another useful test. Each have different treatments and they can be managed

Vomiting in older kitties can be caused by issues with the intestines (such as inflammatory bowel disease or lymphoma), issues with internal organs (kidneys, liver, thyroid, pancreas), or less commonly by intestinal parasites or something being stuck in the intestines. There are other even less common issues, but these are the ones I worry about first. Your first step is a trip to the vet's office for an exam and likely blood work and x-rays of her abdomen and chest. From there, they may be able to determine exactly what is wrong, or there may still be a question. There are some treatments that can be tried if you can't afford the testing or if the testing doesn't show a clear answer (which is frustratingly common in this sort of issue), or you may choose to go forward with more advanced diagnostics such as an abdominal ultrasound. While you're waiting for your vet visit (which will hopefully be within 24 hours), make sure Toby has access to fresh water at all times and don't attempt any diet changes. Both of these illnesses can cause increases in appetite and weight loss. The blood work helps to rule in and rule out multiple diseases. Good luck and kisses to Tully Mars!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your cat. She will need to see her veterinarian for laboratory work. Increased vocalizations and increased thirst are common signs of hyperthyroidism. This is a disease where the body makes too much thyroid hormone thereby increasing metabolism. Other signs can include weight loss, hyperactivity, increased urination as well as vomiting and/or diarrhea. If this is her diagnosis, the disease is typically managed with medication. Hi. Unfortunately vomiting can be caused by a lot of different things. This can range from something the pet ate, something stuck in the intestine such as a string or other foreign body, metabolic or endocrine diseases, food sensitivities, irritable bowel disease, or even some cancers. It is definitely not normal for Tuna to be vomiting that often. I would recommend a visit to your veterinarian. They will perform an exam, lab work, and possibly x-rays which will help Guide to the correct diagnosis. Unfortunately there isn't much you can do from home at this time. Good luck.

Poor Sweetie! In older cats, I would be concerned that the vomiting is caused by kidney disease, inflammatory bowel disease, a foreign body, or intestinal lymphoma. I would take her into the vet first thing in the morning. The vet can do a physical exam, routine blood tests, a urinalysis, x-rays, and possibly an ultrasound to determine what is causing her vomiting. Once the cause is found, the vet can recommend a possible treatment.
