Why is my cat still throwing up after vaccine and Cerenia shot?

The best anti-nausea medications are prescription, and I always prefer to use injectible anti-nausea medications because they work faster and better. This should subside within 1-2 days. The vomiting could certainly be due to other reasons like gastroenteritis. I am guessing the injection given was Cerenia. Side effects are uncommon with the use of this medication, but the most commonly noted side effects were: drooling, drowsiness, diarrhea, and appetite loss. I would be worried and I think he needs to get back to the vet. Were any x-rays or blood testing done? If not, that needs to be done to figure out what is going on. This sounds like it could be something more serious going on. If it was just a simple upset stomach he should be feeling MUCH better after that injection and not sleeping for 10 hours. I would be worried.

Hello, sorry to hear about Cello. This could be considered a type of delayed vaccine reaction and can be either due to pain at the injection site or a direct reaction in her stomach. If she is vomiting a lot, then I would definitely recommend she is seen by a veterinarian to avoid severe dehydration. However, there is a chance that this may pass on its own if you monitor her for the rest of the day. On the other hand, there are other things that can cause a decreased appetite and vomiting such as foreign bodies, worms, and viruses. So if you think Cello is feeling ill, then consider visiting your veterinarian sooner rather than later. Hope this helps.

Vomiting repeatedly in a cat can be a sign of gastritis (he ate something that upset his stomach), a blockage in the GI tract, a toxin, or other diseases of the body including kidneys/liver/diabetes, etc. If Oliver is playing, acting normally and is eating and drinking, I would recommend just feeding him boiled/boneless/skinless chicken breasts and boiled rice in small frequent meals for a few days. If he is eating/pooping normally and the vomiting resolves, it was likely a mild gastritis. If Oliver is weak/tired, not eating, or the vomiting gets worse at all, he needs to go to a vet right away for x-rays to make sure he doesn't have a blockage or a severe gastritis/pancreatitis. If there is a blockage he will die without surgery, so if the vomiting continues get him to a vet right away. Best of luck with Oliver.

It is certainly possible that he is having a vaccine reaction. If tomorrow morning he isn’t back to normal then I would call for a follow appointment with your veterinarian as soon as possible. They many need to give him some medication for nausea. Also, they will want to document the possible reaction so that next time he needs vaccinations he can be given medication ahead of time to prevent a reaction. This is typically a very effective medication for vomiting, and if there is still vomiting in the face of this, I would definitely recommend getting her back into the vet for re-examination. I would strongly recommend x-rays and blood work. Depending on the level of dehydration, hospitalization with IV fluids would likely be useful particularly if the vomiting is going to continue.
