Why is my kitten vomiting, not eating, and losing weight after shots?

Differentials are many, from vaccine side effects to any gastrointestinal diseases (infection/inflammations often dietary related) to any disease that can spread systemically (causing lethargy for example) like infection, and anything that can cause pain/discomfort. The approach must be logic, starting from offering different kind of food. A check up is needed if inappetence lasts for more than 24hours. Poor Hattie! It’s possible the vaccines are causing a reaction. It could also be related to any dewormers she may have received or it could be unrelated entirely. I recommend to play it safe and have her examined by the veterinarian today. If they suspect a vaccine reaction, they may adjust her protocol in the future to try to avoid this from happening. Poor girl. It sounds like she's been to the vet and is hopefully under treatment. I can't tell from your question how long ago she had the reaction to the collar but get the impression it wasn't the last couple of days. I wouldn't expect on going issues if the collar was the only problem. If it's been more than a week or so, I would be suspicious that something else entirely is going on. Vomiting, diarrhea, and weight loss are the classic symptoms that cats get for nearly every disease, so it's hard to know what could be going on with her. If her blood work is normal, I would be concerned about something primarily with her gut such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease or Lymphoma. The next step is probably an abdominal ultrasound.

Typical vaccine reaction is a slight temperature, soreness, vomiting and very lethargic. It sounds like Minnie might of had a mild vaccine reactions if he symptoms started right after the vaccine. However if she was vaccinated days before this started it is unlikely they are related. I would recommend taking her back to the vet for a good exam to make sure she does not have something more serious going on like a virus or infection. This can be normal! You can see some vomiting after getting vaccines and given that Faelan only vomited once, I would not be too worried. Plus he sounds like he is otherwise acting normally. I would keep an eye on him and if you see protracted vomiting, diarrhea, signs of an allergic reaction (facial swelling, difficulty breathing, then I would be worried and rush him into an ER vet immediately. Some poor appetite can be considered normal after vaccinations. Vaccines stimulate the immune system to help protect your pet from common diseases they could be exposed to. Vaccines can sometimes cause minor changes in appetite or behavior. Usually I tell clients some decrease in appetite and decreased activity can be normal for 24 hours but for any issues lasting more than 24 hours they should call me ASAP. Some of the major issues (although rare) associated with vaccine reactions are trouble breathing and anaphylactic shock. If you notice any trouble breathing, severe lethargy or swelling of the face or at the vaccine site you should contact your veterinarian as soon as possible. If the poor appetite is still an issue after 24 hours or If any other issues are going on contact your veterinarian ASAP.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Lily! Lily is likely having a reaction to the vaccines. If she has a fever she needs to see a veterinarian. When animals have fevers they do not want to eat. Your Vet, after their exam, will likely give her subcutaneous fluids and steroids. Once the fever and the reaction has subsided Lily will likely eat. There is nothing to do at home besides wait out the fever and that may take to long. Cats can not go more than 3 days with out eating or they get sicker.
