My cat threw up after distemper shot and catnip. Should I worry?

This can be normal! You can see some vomiting after getting vaccines and given that Faelan only vomited once, I would not be too worried. Plus he sounds like he is otherwise acting normally. I would keep an eye on him and if you see protracted vomiting, diarrhea, signs of an allergic reaction (facial swelling, difficulty breathing, then I would be worried and rush him into an ER vet immediately. It is certainly possible that he is having a vaccine reaction. If tomorrow morning he isn’t back to normal then I would call for a follow appointment with your veterinarian as soon as possible. They many need to give him some medication for nausea. Also, they will want to document the possible reaction so that next time he needs vaccinations he can be given medication ahead of time to prevent a reaction. Given that Felix had an upset stomach from the car ride, that could also be causing his vomiting. A side effect of vaccines can be vomiting, but that should pass in 24 hours. If his vomiting increases, take him back into the vet. Best of luck.

It is not a typical reaction to the feline distemper vaccine. If he is otherwise acting fine then you could withhold food for 12 hours and see if the vomiting and diarrhea resolves. If not, he should be rechecked by your veterinarian to determine the cause and treat. Your veterinarian can prescribe medications to help control the vomiting and diarrhea. Your vet can test a stool sample for parasites and then prescribe a dewormer, if needed. If he is lethargic then he should be examined as soon as possible. Hope he feels better soon.

Some poor appetite can be considered normal after vaccinations. Vaccines stimulate the immune system to help protect your pet from common diseases they could be exposed to. Vaccines can sometimes cause minor changes in appetite or behavior. Usually I tell clients some decrease in appetite and decreased activity can be normal for 24 hours but for any issues lasting more than 24 hours they should call me ASAP. Some of the major issues (although rare) associated with vaccine reactions are trouble breathing and anaphylactic shock. If you notice any trouble breathing, severe lethargy or swelling of the face or at the vaccine site you should contact your veterinarian as soon as possible. If the poor appetite is still an issue after 24 hours or If any other issues are going on contact your veterinarian ASAP.

Differentials are many, from vaccine side effects to any gastrointestinal diseases (infection/inflammations often dietary related) to any disease that can spread systemically (causing lethargy for example) like infection, and anything that can cause pain/discomfort. The approach must be logic, starting from offering different kind of food. A check up is needed if inappetence lasts for more than 24hours. Time will tell with this one. Since she's eating, drinking, and not lethargic, you certainly don't need to seek emergency care tonight. If tomorrow she still seems out of sorts, or continues to vomit, I would recommend scheduling a vet appointment for exam and x-rays of her abdomen.
