Why does my cat throw up right after eating Temptations or Greenies?

If your cat only vomits when given a treat but otherwise is tolerating the wet food without vomiting or diarrhea, then there is little cause for concern. Cat do not need extra treats to be happy and healthy. In fact, some cats can be very sensitive to even minor changes in their diet. Your cat may just be sensitive to one or more ingredients in the treats. Your should seek veterinary attention, however, if your cat routinely has bouts of vomiting or diarrhea that aren't associated with changes in the diet.

If she is eating, drinking, playing and doesn't continue to vomit I wouldn't worry too much. It could have been from a hair ball, the treat upset her, she was full or from excitement. I would avoid that treat for a while. Be sure she has been dewormed well, has had her stool tested and is up to date on vaccines. I hope this helps!

This new treat could be causing Beanz to have diarrhea. I'd stop giving him the treats, and I can give you a home remedy for his diarrhea. Withhold food for 12 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he vomits the bland diet, he refuses to eat the bland diet, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. But you first have to differentiate whethere whether Coix is vomting (obvious retching and forceful expulsion) or regurgitating (undigested food just seems to come out without much effort). Vomiting can be caused by inflammatory bowel disease, megaesophagus (typically causes regurgitation), a parasitic infection (not as common), or even an underlying congenital disorder. Most of these conditions are treatable. You should first start with some diagnostic testing to gather more information on your specific pets condition. Then we will know what needs to be done for Coix to help control his vomiting episodes a bit better. In general, you can continue to feed smaller portions and go with an easily digestible diet such as limited ingredient diets (i.e. Iams, Purina, Evo). This is something you can easily start while awaiting a proper vet visit and diagnostic work-up for Coix. I am personally not a fan of grain free diets unless the pet has a proven grain allergy due to the issues with dogs right now and grain free diets (heart disease). This issues hasn't been reported in the cat grain free diets. I have no problem with the Nutro you pictured above IF it solves Greyson's chronic vomiting problem Give him 2-3 months on the diet and if it significantly reduces the vomiting I am fine with it. Hello and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There are many different reasons why cats will vomit periodically. It could be an allergy or sensitivity to the food, to inflammation anywhere in the GI tract, pancreatitis, liver or kidney disease, and many more. These cases can be extremely frustrating and take lots of testing to figure out because of this. The first thing I recommend is screening blood work to look for organ dysfunction that could lead to vomiting. In the vast majority of cats who are acting normal other than the vomiting, the blood work is usually normal. X-rays are also performed to look for any obvious change in organ shape or size and to look for obstruction, masses, etc. Beyond that, the testing gets more involved and typically involves an abdominal ultrasound. Sometime this can give you an answer. Other times the only way to confirm a diagnosis is through biopsies of the affected organs. The other thing that is commonly recommended is a change in diet. If there is an ingredient that she is sensitive to, we want to try to eliminate it from her diet. This is best done with a prescription diet because over-the-counter diets can be contaminated with ingredients that are not on the label. Food trials need to be done for at least 6 to 8 weeks and they can't eat anything else during this time. If the vomiting resolves with the new diet, I recommend keeping her on that diet long-term.
