Vaccinated my cat with ringworm. Will vaccine worsen condition?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 4 lbs

Mochi had recurrent ringworm, and in Early October he was suffering from FPV. He is as healthy as ever now, and it doesnt seem like he has ringworm anymore. So today I vaccinated him. He doesnt like vets, although i have made him familiar with the carrier/played with him at the clinic before meeting the dr. He was so aggressive and traumatized that he pooped and urinated. I bathed him right after and noticed a bald spot. Is is bad that i vaccinated him when his ringworm hasnt subsided?

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. The vaccination should not overwhelm his immune system enough to be worried about the ringworm worsening. As long as he is on treatment for the ringworm and it doesn't worsen after the vaccine, he should be absolutely fine. It sounds like he is not on treatment so I would make sure to contact the vet who last saw him so that you can start treatment if this is ringworm. There is a chance this is not ringworm at all and just an areas Kochi scratched at as well. I have vaccinated cats with skin infections and ringworm before and have never noticed that the infection worsened. There is always the possibility that it could worsen, but in my experience, this is not very common for it to worsen after receiving a vaccination. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Poor kitty. I would not recommend tying a rope to your kitten. Ringworm is typically only contagious in immune compromised people or the really young (children) or really old (senior). If you still have concerns about transmission then wear gloves when handling kitty and perhaps place kitty in a spare room until the skin lesions resolve. As far as the injection goes, I can't comment on whether it is ok to give again or not, because I don't know what the injection was. I honestly have only prescribed oral (by mouth) anti-fungal medication and topicals to treat ringworm. Please repost with the name of the injection that your kitty received and we can give you more information on whether it is safe or not. You may find the name of the medication on your invoice.

Is it safe for my puppy to get a vaccine while on ringworm meds?

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach this morning. It is best to wait until Fynn has cleared the infection before administering vaccines. Why does my pet's ringworm look worse while on medication?

They can definitely look worse right before they get better. This happens when the body pushes out the old/diseased skin and hair while the new/healthy skin and hair grows in. Oral medication is very effective for ringworm and not prone to resistance like some bacterial infections, so I doubt it's getting worse. It's also a good sign if it's just the existing lesions that look worse; rather than there being new lesions. If new lesions are seen, then this would indicate that the treatment is not working and would require a recheck by your veterinarian. I hope that helps and Buttercup gets better soon.

My cat's fur loss worsened after antibiotics. Is it a reaction?

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. The antibiotic injection did not likely worsen the area. The wipes may be further irritating the area so I would discontinue the wipes and consider trying a topical spray such as Malacetic Conditioning spray (can be found online) and apply twice daily until resolved. This may also be a fungal infection such as ringworm so using the spray will help treat the potential fungal infection. If the area does not improve or it worsens, I would bring Marlow back in for a recheck examination with the previous veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Why is my outdoor cat's fungal infection worsening despite treatment?

Hi and thank you for using PetCoach. If the fungal infection is ringworm, it can take weeks to months to fully resolve. Many times treating the environment as well as the cat is needed. Keep Mia indoors may make it easier to contain the infection and prevent reinfection. The vet can look at hairs under the microscope or try to culture the fungus from Mia to assess if she still has it. My dog has bald spots. Can Vetco treat ringworm during vaccinations?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! VetCo, which is the vaccination services offered at some PetCo's, doesn't treat illnesses or skin conditions. It is a WELLNESS clinic, so they only see healthy pets with out any issues. I recommend seeing a Vet at a hospital or clinic for Mia's skin issues. It is possible that it is a skin infection. Is my 3-month kitten a ringworm carrier if my kids have it? Treatment?

The treatment is with an oral antifungal, it's not recommended if your kitten is asymptomatic as this medication can have severe side effects. The medication is prescription only and can be given only by your vet, in this specific case I do not believe any vet would recommend this treatment though.
