Why is my cat throwing up constantly months after neutering?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Ocicat | Male | neutered | 9 months and 15 days old | 7 lbs

My cat has been constantly throwing up for months. I've tried just about everything to help him but nothing has works. Sometimes it's his food and other times it's random fur (not a fur ball). He's about 9 months old and the vomiting got worse after he was neutered. Do you have any idea of what's wrong with him?

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear that Frankie is having these problems. If the vomiting has been occurring for months, I would advise that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian. There are many causes of vomiting including worms/parasites in the intestines, dietary indiscretion (eating things he is not supposed to eat), dietary intolerance/sensitivity, hairballs, infection/inflammation, foreign bodies, hairballs, problems with internal organs, etc. Your veterinarian can assess Frankie and then formulate a diagnostic plan which might include physical exam, intestinal worm exam, blood tests, and possibly some imaging studies like x-ray, ultrasound, or endoscopy (a special scope with a camera on it). Once a diagnosis is made a treatment plan can be made. I hope Frankie gets better soon.
