Why is my indoor/outdoor cat throwing up dry food for 3 days?

It sounds as Snow is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

It's hard to say if you should be worried at this point but if the vomiting continues you will have to get him evaluated. Any sign of illness in a pet that persists or worsens needs to be evaluated by your veterinarian and re evaluated until the problem is resolved. Vomiting causes fluid loss and electrolyte loss and can lead to dehydration and weakness. Not sure if Simon is an indoor/outdoor cat but I would advise deworming him since intestinal worms are so prevalent. That is an easy thing to do to rule out intestinal parasites and should be done in all cases of gastrointestinal upset as long as the medication can be safely given and it is not vomited back up. Intestinal parasites are extremely common across the globe and account for the vast majority of vomiting and diarrhea cases. Other causes include inflammation, infection, dietary problems (including dietary indiscretion or eating things pets are not supposed to eat, food sensitivities/allergies), ingestion of foreign bodies or exposure to toxins, bacterial overgrowth in the gut, problems in the stomach, intestines, or even problems outside of the intestinal tract/stomach including pancreatitis, kidney/liver problems, metabolic disease (diabetes,etc), endocrine diseases (thyroid or other hormone problems), etc. A thorough history and physical exam with resultant diagnostics such as fecal tests, blood tests, and more imaging studies such as x-rays/ultrasound to try to determine what is going on. Cat food can definitely be too high in protein and often too rich for dogs, causing the type of symptoms you are seeing. In some cases, it can even cause inflammation of the pancreas. This is typically verified with lab work and/or ultrasound. If she's been vomiting for three days, this is definitely significant enough to warrant veterinary attention. She may be clinically dehydrated at this point and require some fluid therapy and anti vomiting medication. In terms of preventing Bubba from eating the cat food, the only way you are going to be able to do that is by keeping it out of his reach, or by keeping him on a leash while in the presence of the food. There is the potential to train Bubba to leave certain foods alone, but this is not something that you will be able to accomplish overnight.

Poor Sweetie! In older cats, I would be concerned that the vomiting is caused by kidney disease, inflammatory bowel disease, a foreign body, or intestinal lymphoma. I would take her into the vet first thing in the morning. The vet can do a physical exam, routine blood tests, a urinalysis, x-rays, and possibly an ultrasound to determine what is causing her vomiting. Once the cause is found, the vet can recommend a possible treatment.

Aw poor Simba! I'm sorry to hear he's sick! It would be a good idea to have him checked out by a veterinarian to ensure he does not have an intestinal obstruction, infection, or other cause of vomiting and decreased appetite. He may need injections to stop his vomitng and fluids to rehydrate him. I'm concerned that 4 days of not eating can cause serious illness in a cat so the sooner he sees a veterinarian the better. Draco may be eating his food too fast and then it expands (in the case of dry food) and the stomach wants to get rid of it, "thinking" it is overfilling, Better feed him smaller amounts of food over three to four times a day. Eating grass is a sign of a tummy ache or nausea. Draco may also be trying to get rid of a hair ball. In addition, there is a possibility of chronic pancreatitis and gastritis. Older cats also tend to get old cat diseases, such as hyperthyroidism or kidney disease, both of which can cause vomiting. Worst case scenario, especially since Draco is an older kitty, would be lymphoma. I suggest you take Draco to your veterinarian for a senior exam including blood tests, possibly x-rays, if the vomiting does not subside with changing to feeding smaller portions more frequently.

I'm sorry to hear Marley isn't feeling well. I would be worried about something stuck in his GI tract. I would also rule out GI parasites or other infections. I recommend taking Marley to the vet for an exam and possible X-rays. Good luck and kisses to Marley!
