My dog ate cat food and is throwing up for 3 days. Should I worry?

That is a long time for Kittu to vomit, and I would be concerned he has something serious wrong with him such as a foreign body or pancreatitis causing his vomiting. if he's vomiting whenever he eats, he will not have had any nutrition for four or five days. He needs to see a vet immediately for this problem, please take him into one now. Best of luck!

Poor Monkey! Just like humans, cats can vomit for many reasons. Since this has been going on for three days, I recommend to have Monkey examined by the veterinarian. Bring in a fresh stool sample for parasites testing. The most common reasons are parasites, bacterial over growth or eating something he shouldn't have. Vomiting can also be caused by more serious conditions like poisoning or intestinal blockage. Monkey needs a physical exam to begin figuring out what's wrong. I hope it's nothing serious and that he starts feeling better quickly.

It is possible the dog food is causing gastrointestinal upset. Dog food is formulated for the nutritional needs of a dog which is an omnivore, cats are obligate carnivores are require a meat based, cat formulated diet. It's hard to say if you should be worried at this point but if the vomiting continues you will have to get him evaluated. Any sign of illness in a pet that persists or worsens needs to be evaluated by your veterinarian and re evaluated until the problem is resolved. Vomiting causes fluid loss and electrolyte loss and can lead to dehydration and weakness. Not sure if Simon is an indoor/outdoor cat but I would advise deworming him since intestinal worms are so prevalent. That is an easy thing to do to rule out intestinal parasites and should be done in all cases of gastrointestinal upset as long as the medication can be safely given and it is not vomited back up. Intestinal parasites are extremely common across the globe and account for the vast majority of vomiting and diarrhea cases. Other causes include inflammation, infection, dietary problems (including dietary indiscretion or eating things pets are not supposed to eat, food sensitivities/allergies), ingestion of foreign bodies or exposure to toxins, bacterial overgrowth in the gut, problems in the stomach, intestines, or even problems outside of the intestinal tract/stomach including pancreatitis, kidney/liver problems, metabolic disease (diabetes,etc), endocrine diseases (thyroid or other hormone problems), etc. A thorough history and physical exam with resultant diagnostics such as fecal tests, blood tests, and more imaging studies such as x-rays/ultrasound to try to determine what is going on. Poor Brutus. He's such a cutie! It sounds like the cat food has upset his stomach. Feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he refuses to eat the bland diet, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.

Oh dear, poor Brandy! It is possible that she is experiencing some gastroenteritis from even a small amount of cookie dough. You can try to withhold food for the next 12-24 hours, then offer a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken for a few days. Once the vomiting subsides, gradually mix her normal food with the bland diet over another 5-7 days. However, if Brandy continues to vomit, develops diarrhea, lethargy, or refuses to eat the bland diet, she will need to go to her vet. She may need IV fluids and medications to help slow her vomiting. It might result in diarrhea or vomiting or you may not see anything. It depends on how sensitive Midnight is to food changes. If this seems severe, make sure to take him into the vets. Also make sure that Midnight primarily eats cat food (90% or more of total diet) as cat food contains special amino acids needed for heart health. I hope this helps!
