My cat keeps throwing up clear fluid after naps. What's the cause?

That's definitely concerning. Bombay could have something stuck in his intestines, an intestinal parasite, or even a metabolic problem. I would recommend getting him to the clinic this week for an exam and some x-rays to see if they can find a cause. He could also have vomited once because of eating something strange or a virus, and the vomiting itself irritated his stomach so he keeps vomiting - sometime treatment with fluids and an anti-vomiting medication is all that is needed to settle these guys down, but it's important to do testing first to make sure nothing else is going on. There could be several things that is causing your cat to vomit. Some of the more common things that cause vomiting and anorexia in a cat are gastritis (inflammation of the stomach wall), pancreatitis, intestinal parasites, and irritable bowel disease. I would withhold food from your cat for about 24 hours to give the stomach some time to rest. If she is continuing to vomit or still not eating after this, then I would recommend taking her in to see your vet. They can give her nausea medication and fluids if she is dehydrated. I recommend having Kitten seen by his veterinarian based on the symptoms you are describing. He may just have some gastrointestinal upset but there is also the possibility for something more serious such as a foreign body.

There are many reasons for cats to vomit. If Winter has not been checked for parasites within the last month, I recommend to have this done to make sure they are not causing the vomiting. It could be an allergy or sensitivity to the food, to inflammation anywhere in the GI tract, pancreatitis, liver or kidney disease, and many more. These cases can be extremely frustrating and take lots of testing to figure out because of this. The first thing I recommend is screening blood work to look for organ dysfunction that could lead to vomiting. In the vast majority of cats who are acting normal other than the vomiting, the blood work is usually normal. X-rays are also performed to look for any obvious change in organ shape or size and to look for obstruction, masses, etc. Beyond that, the testing gets more involved and typically involves an abdominal ultrasound. Sometime this can give you an answer. Other times the only way to confirm a diagnosis is through biopsies of the affected organs. The other thing that is commonly recommended is a change in diet. If there is an ingredient that she is sensitive to, we want to try to eliminate it from her diet. This is best done with a prescription diet because over-the-counter diets can be contaminated with ingredients that are not on the label. Food trials need to be done for at least 6 to 8 weeks and they can't eat anything else during this time. If the vomiting resolves with the new diet, I recommend keeping her on that diet long-term.
