My cat threw up. How long to wait to feed her if she seems normal?

It's possible Luna may just have some minor GI upset, or she is going too long in between meals if this has only happened twice and she is otherwise normal and happy. Other possibilities can include something such as a hairball that is leading to vomiting. Offering a bland meal after she vomits, or increasing the number of meals she gets per day may help with anything minor. If the vomiting continues, worsens, she shows other signs of illness, or you are just very concerned about it, it is always best to schedule a veterinary visit to rule out more serious issues. Internal parasites, GI illness, metabolic diseases, etc can all potentially cause vomiting as a symptom, so a complete exam is best to rule out any more serious problems.

If she keeps that down well, you can give her a little more in a few hours (or just give her her normal sized breakfast in the morning). If when you transition her to canned food she starts vomiting again, I highly recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Time will tell with this one. Since she's eating, drinking, and not lethargic, you certainly don't need to seek emergency care tonight. If tomorrow she still seems out of sorts, or continues to vomit, I would recommend scheduling a vet appointment for exam and x-rays of her abdomen. Thank you for your questions about Jazz. Anytime you see abnormal behavior, it's certainly possible that something is going on and that Jazz is ill. Many things can make pet's have an upset stomach: parasites, new foods/treats, viral infections, eating something they shouldn't have, toxins, organ disease or even intestinal blockage. Since she seems to be normal otherwise, you can try to switch her to a bland diet of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% plain boiled white rice. Do not feed her anything else. After 24 hours, if she is still sick, I recommend to take her into the veterinarian to check for other causes of illness. If she is doing better, continue the diet for another 24 hours. Then gradually introduce which ever diet you want her to eat. Sometimes continued vomiting may be a sign that a certain diet isn't agreeing with them. For a routine diet, I recommend an easy to digest food such as Royal Canin. Most pets who eat this diet have nice coats, good stool quality and low stool quantity (a sign that the diet does not contain many fillers). I hope this helps to point you in the right direction. If it has only been twice and this last time was only a small amount, then I would likely wait and see. If there is any further vomiting through the night then I recommend taking him in tomorrow. Our pets are very talented at eating things they are not supposed to without us knowing about it, so I never take for granted the possibility. There are many reasons for vomiting, and if it resolves on its own, then nothing further is necessary.

If Merida is otherwise acting normal you probably don't have to take her to the ER tonight. If she is unable to stop vomiting or you see blood in her vomit then I would take her in. Try feeding her smaller meals multiple times a day while you are waiting on your slow feeder and see if this helps. If the slow feeder does not help the problem you may need to switch her diet to something more easily digestible or something for sensitive stomachs.
