Cat throws up after eating in morning, but seems normal. Why?

I'm sorry to hear Aries isn't doing well! Unfortunately, vomiting like this can be due to a number of things, which is why a vet visit is important. Issues such as a hairball or parasites can cause vomiting, along with functional issues that may be causing problems with digestion. Other issues can include food allergies (male cats tend to be allergic to ingredients such as fish or chicken in their foods) or even an issue with how often you are feeding Aries. Smaller meals more often can sometimes help vomiting if it's every morning, especially if Aries goes all night without any food. Offering a small meal right before bed (or a treat) can sometimes keep the stomach full enough to keep it from getting too empty and causing vomiting. However, since this has been prolonged and there are so many potential causes, a vet visit is always best.

I would definitely keep an eye on him, and if he vomits again or doesn't want to eat still, schedule a vet appointment. Issues such as minor GI upset, underlying illness, hairballs or obstructions, parasites, etc can all be possible causes of vomiting, which is why it's important to have it checked out if it continues more than once. If Lando seems in any obvious distress or pain (vocalizing, pacing, attempting to go potty but can't, tender to touch, etc), then he should be seen sooner.

Vomiting in cats is a nonspecific sign and can indicate a number or things including inflammatory bowel disease, kidney problems, thyroid issues, dietary sensitivity, or an intestinal obstruction. If Lucy is otherwise acting normally you could try a diet like Hill's Science Diet for sensitive stomach to see if this helps. However, if Lucy is having other issues, if she is vomiting frequently, or she continues to vomit despite the diet change then she should be examined by a veterinarian. It sounds as Marylin is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

While vomiting hair occasionally is normal for some cats the increased frequency you have described is concerning. It is possible at Midnight is grooming more due to a seasonal coat shedding or she may have some underlying intestinal irritation contributing to the vomiting. Cats that hunt are at higher risk for parasites and this can also contribute to vomiting. If the increased frequency of vomiting continues or if you notice any other signs such as decreased appetite, lethargy or weight loss, I would recommend that you have her seen by your veterinarian. They may recommend checking a stool sample for parasites and possibly blood work to rule out other potential causes for vomiting such as kidney disease or thyroid problems.

Hello and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There are many different reasons why cats will vomit periodically. It could be an allergy or sensitivity to the food, to inflammation anywhere in the GI tract, pancreatitis, liver or kidney disease, and many more. These cases can be extremely frustrating and take lots of testing to figure out because of this. The first thing I recommend is screening blood work to look for organ dysfunction that could lead to vomiting. In the vast majority of cats who are acting normal other than the vomiting, the blood work is usually normal. X-rays are also performed to look for any obvious change in organ shape or size and to look for obstruction, masses, etc. Beyond that, the testing gets more involved and typically involves an abdominal ultrasound. Sometime this can give you an answer. Other times the only way to confirm a diagnosis is through biopsies of the affected organs. The other thing that is commonly recommended is a change in diet. If there is an ingredient that she is sensitive to, we want to try to eliminate it from her diet. This is best done with a prescription diet because over-the-counter diets can be contaminated with ingredients that are not on the label. Food trials need to be done for at least 6 to 8 weeks and they can't eat anything else during this time. If the vomiting resolves with the new diet, I recommend keeping her on that diet long-term.

Common causes of vomiting in cats includes hairballs, food allergy, eating too fast, GI blockage, intestinal parasites, IBD, intestinal lymphoma, hyperthyroidism, systemic disease (liver, kidney, pancreas, diabetes), among others. You can remove her food and wait 6-12 hours to see if the vomiting stops. Then only give her small amounts of her food. If the vomiting continues tomorrow, Mochi should get checked out by her vet.
