My cat is thin. How much food should I feed for him to gain weight?

Hello, depending on her lifestyle, indoor only cats should be fed atleast twice daily. This can be a variety of dry and wet food and should not exceed more than 1 cup of dry food per day or more than 1 can per day. There may be differences depending on how many calories each food contains so it is hard to determine this. Your kitten should be consuming around 201 Kcal per day. Hope this helps and best of luck.

If he is only underweight because he was malnourished (not fed enough food), then you can expect weight gain within 1-3 months. He should steadily gin weight throughout. However if there are other underlying factors such as intestinal parasites, pancreatic disease, a malabsorption problem, or even thyroid disease, then there will be little to no weight gain. It is best to have Oreo examined by a vet and at the very least have a fecal exam done to rule out intestinal parasites. You can also try giving Oreo a broad spectrum dewormer (i.e. Pyrantel palmitate, Fenbendazole) from your local pet store for prophylactic purposes. Good question. Cats in general get about 1 cup of food daily per 10 lbs of body weight. However check your cat food label and you will often find a feeding amount guideline right on the package. So 1 cup= 1 can (~5.5oz). So for a 10 lb cat this is roughly 1/2 can + 1/2 cup.

If Kovu is really 7 pounds like your profile says, he should be eating about 250 to 300 calories per day to gain weight. The caloric content can be easily found in the can or bag of food or online. Hi and thanks for posting! For Easel who is a spayed adult cat, she'll need about 220-250 calories a day to maintain her current weight and between 180-200 if she needs to lose weight. Every food can and product bag contain the calories per cup or calories per can on the label which you can use to adjust her cups per day accordingly. I hope this helps!
