My cat brought a tarantula. Why is she licking her mouth and shaking?

This is not a black widow nor a brown widow, nor a hobo nor yellow sack spider which would be the dangerous spiders in Oregon.. So, while it is likely your kitty was bitten, it is unlikely that there is lasting damage. The poison of this spider likely did hurt or irritate your cat, but she should be fine since the licking and pawing stopped.

Oh no, poor Sylar! If he's not pawing at his mouth or foaming anymore, I would keep an eye on him. It could be the pain from the spider caused that reaction. I would try to look up the spider on the internet to see if it is poisonous or not, and if it is, rush him into an ER vet now. While monitor him, if you see any swelling of the mouth, vomiting, foaming of the mouth, respiratory difficulties, or the bite in his mouth gets bigger, I would have him seen by a vet right away.

She could have something stuck in her mouth or under her tongue especially since you know she chewed on the blind or she could have gotten a hold of something else. If the Vet just finds a wound then they can provide pain medications and antibiotics. I wish you the best!

This looks like a house centipede (Scutigera coleoptrata). If so, it is not deadly. House centipedes do their hunting via a set of venomous front legs. The good news is that they are usually unable to bite/sting through skin. If they are successful, it is not life-threatening, it's supposed to feel a lot like a bee sting. Usually if cats lick/ingest something toxic they will foam at the mouth - if you notice that all you need to do is rinse out her mouth with tap water. Don't shove or force the water down her throat or she could aspirate the water into the lungs. If she was stung by some chance it will likely resolve on it's own. I would only be worried if she actually at the whole thing and even then, it's not toxic; it just may upset her stomach. Hope this helps. If you have more questions please post again.

That would depend on the cause of the head shaking and salivating. Rabies is possible, even in a kitten so young, if it hasn't been vaccinated. The most common cause of this is licking something that doesn't taste good. Be careful to not get bitten, and use a syringe or a water hose on very low pressure to rinse out the mouth with cool water. Don't spray it in the back of the throat. If it seems like the kitten can't swallow, he really needs to see a vet, or if the salivating continues or he starts showing other abnormalities that could be associated with rabies, such as tremors, seizuring, or becoming aggressive.

I’m sorry to hear about your Dad, and that your kitty isn’t feeling herself. What you describe concerns me About possible back pain, or something called hyperesthesia. This is where cats are very over sensitive on their back, some people think this may actually be seizure activity. I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian soon. Give the pain medications as directed and try to keep her quiet. The more she moves initially, the more pressure on her paws which will result in discomfort.
