My cat has a swollen, smelly vaginal area with discharge and sores.

Poor girl. It looks like Memow has an infection going on there possibly. I would get this checked by your vet. The hair needs to be shaved away and the skin looked at closely. If there is an infection, as suspected, then Me-mow will need a short course of antibiotics to hopefully clear this up. The vet will also likely want to check her for a UTI, since this is a common cause for infections near the genital area. If she is not grooming well, then this could also indicate an internal organ issue, so bloodwork may be recommended to check her full health status and make sure we don't miss anything underlying. Poor Kya! There are a few things that could be going on. She could be having some issues such as constipation or a urinary issue which is causing irritation. You've also indicated that she is not spayed, so swelling of the vaginal region may also indicate that Kya is in heat. I would keep an eye on the area and remove and debris with a clean washcloth, and if the symptoms persist without visible signs of going into heat, or you see other symptoms of illness such as straining to go to the bathroom, blood in the urine or stool, strange discharge, lethargy, etc, schedule a vet visit to rule out more serious issues such as infections or GI problems.

I would be concerned that Shae Shae could have vaginal hyperplasia and prolapse. This would cause her to have difficulty urinating, which would then lead her to stink like urine. I would have Shae Shae seen by a vet right away. This is something that needs to be cleaned and possibly replaced into it's correct anatomical position, but it can be treated without hospitalization. I can give you some resources that may help you afford a vet. You can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. Hi. It is hard to tell in the photo where this is, or if it is a mass or flat. But, this area appears to be very infected. There is some swelling there as well. So it could be a mass that is secondarily infected. Skin infections can occur from bacteria, funguses, parasites, chronic irritation to an area (like a skin fold), trauma to an area, or a mass that is oozing and causes the immediate area near it to become moist/irritated and secondarily infected. There are some metabolic, endocrine, and immune disease that can cause a pet to have a harder time fighting infections. Fom this photo and without more history, we can't tell you what this is exactly, and what the treatment would be. But those are some possibilities. I recommend getting Sammy seen and have that area looked at and treated so that he can be more comfortable. Good luck.

I'm wondering if she could have a malignant growth that has ulcerated causing this or if it could be a problem with her anal sacs. Her anal sacs may have been impacted and have now ruptured. Without seeing her in person, I ca't say what is going on for sure. I think it's best you take her into a vet immediately to get this diagnosed and treated. I hope this helps!

Hello. Although it is not usually noticeable, you do indicate that Oreo has not been spayed. I would suspect then she is in heat. If you could post a picture, that might help, but if she seems to be comfortable, not licking or excessively grooming the area, & you are not seeing any discharge, then just watch the area. I'm sorry about Dehan. She does appear to be very ill and the tissue in the photos is very infected. She needs to see a veterinarian right away for some help. Once her overall co diction is evaluated, the necessary treatment can be discussed. At minimum, she needs to be on an antibiotic, pain relief and some supportive care IV or SQ fluids. Please take her to a veterinarian as soon as possible. This is beyond any home treatment.
