My cats bum and vagina is red and swollen and I’m not sure what from or how to help her

Poor Kya! There are a few things that could be going on. She could be having some issues such as constipation or a urinary issue which is causing irritation. You've also indicated that she is not spayed, so swelling of the vaginal region may also indicate that Kya is in heat.

I would keep an eye on the area and remove and debris with a clean washcloth, and if the symptoms persist without visible signs of going into heat, or you see other symptoms of illness such as straining to go to the bathroom, blood in the urine or stool, strange discharge, lethargy, etc, schedule a vet visit to rule out more serious issues such as infections or GI problems.

Swelling of the anus/rectum could be due to constipation/hard stools, anal gland issues, allergies, irritation, or other problems. You would need to have the area looked at by your vet to determine what is going on and get the appropriate treatment. Be sure to let your vet known of any other issues you may have seen such as changes in appetite, energy levels, stool habits, etc. You can also use an Elizabethan (cone) collar to prevent your cat from licking/chewing at the affected area if it is bothersome until you can get to your vet.

My cat has a red bump on her rear. When should I take her to the vet?

Hello! That bump looks a little swollen and red, and it could simply be a wound. I would clean the area with warm water and antiseptic soap, and keep an eye on it. If the swelling gets larger, Chiky starts having trouble passing feces, she starts scooting on her behind, licking the area a lot, and/or you see pus, then I would take her into the vet. In that case, I would be concerned that the wound may be infected, or it could be something else causing the swelling such as infected and impacted anal sacs or intestinal worms. My unspayed cat's vaginal area is red and swollen. Should I worry?

Hello. Although it is not usually noticeable, you do indicate that Oreo has not been spayed. I would suspect then she is in heat. If you could post a picture, that might help, but if she seems to be comfortable, not licking or excessively grooming the area, & you are not seeing any discharge, then just watch the area. Hello. This looks like a very severe infection. The topical washes that you are using may be irritating the area more as they are not formulated for feline skin. This kitty really needs to see a veterinarian to be examined and treated. At minimum, she needs a prescription antibiotic. Your vet may want to do a urinalysis or an X-ray . Please try to have her seen ASAP.

Misha should be physically examined by your veterinarian to diagnose or rule out constipation, obstruction or a rectal prolapse. Submit a stool sample to diagnose intestinal parasites which can lead to diarrhea and potential prolapse from straining. If she is constipated, your vet may need to sedate her and manually empty her out. IV or subcutaneous fluids may be necessary to correct dehydration which can be a contributing factor. An obstruction, if diagnosed, may require surgery to correct.

Poor little Chico! He could be suffering from intestinal worms, which are common in kittens and could cause the red and swollen bump. I would have him seen by a vet for this, and bring along a sample of his feces as well. The vet can examine his feces under a microscope of signs of worms, and can treat him accordingly. The vet can also let you know if he is a boy or girl. I hope this helps!

My cat's butt is swollen, bleeding, and has discharge. What's wrong?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Luna. Poor girl! That is quite swollen and the area look really wet, so I suspect there is discharge. I'm wondering if she could have a malignant growth that has ulcerated causing this or if it could be a problem with her anal sacs. Her anal sacs may have been impacted and have now ruptured. Without seeing her in person, I ca't say what is going on for sure. I think it's best you take her into a vet immediately to get this diagnosed and treated. I hope this helps!
