Why is my spayed kitten's mammary gland swollen and blue post-spay?

It sounds as though Knox is exhibiting signs of a false pregnancy. Since she was spayed last month, it is not possible for her to actually become pregnant. Rarely, a portion of ovarian tissue (referred to as ovarian remnant syndrome) can remain after a spay, which then produces hormones and can cause signs of heat and possible pregnancy. I do recommend taking Knox to her vet for an exam and to consider blood hormone levels to determine if ovarian remnant syndrome is suspected. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is likely mammary gland hyperplasia which is benign growth of the breast tissue in cats. It can happen after the cat is spayed if they ovulated and were recently in heat before the surgery. It is secondary to hormonal influence. It should resolve on it's own. I hope this helps!

Hello. If Lulu just weaned her kittens shortly before having her spay surgery, then most likely this is just the tissues in the intermediary phase before they begin to shrink down. If Lulu will allow you to place a warm compress on the nipples, this will assist in the blood flow necessary to help bring the swelling down. I strongly recommend you keep the two cats separated for at least 3-4weeks or place a coat on Tappi which will cover the area in order to prevent nursing and break this cycle of behavior. Constant nursong will lead to inflammation and possible infection of the glands and is a vicious cycle of stimulation and irritation

Yes, this could be due to a false pregnancy. Storm should not still be feeding the seven month old kitten, that is way too old. You need to separate her completely from the kittens (as long as all are at least two months of age) so her milk can dry up. I'd take her into the vet to confirm she has a false pregnancy and to make a date to spay her. I hope this helps.

If she is experiencing vaginal swelling i would suspect an ectopic ovarian cyst (this can happen regardless of the spay procedure. if this issue does not resolve after a while the solution is usually a surgery to look for the ovarian remenent cyst in the abdominal cavity.

This presentation is likely to be caused by a mastitis, which is an inflammation/infection of the mammary glands quite common in post-lactating feline patients. A check up would be ideally required to confirm this clinical, suspicion and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed.
