My cat was given Quadritop orally. Is it safe for her to swallow?

There is not a concern for ingesting prednisolone in and of itself. I am not sure if the formulation you are using is intended only for topical use, so may have some ingredients that shouldn’t be ingested, however if it was just a small amount, I wouldn’t be concerned. Antiseptics are generally not indicated, because studies have shown that they end up causing more damage than good and can delay wound healing. While the Oratene does have some promising ingredients, you are better off doing a good salt water soak twice a day. I hope that helps and your kitty gets better soon.

Poor Pye! Thank you for following up to state that he got some miconazole in his nose and mouth. This medication is only prescribed for topical use, and seems to only have minimal absorption if some is accidentally ingested. However, it can cause some stomach upset or even liver problems if enough is ingested. It's likely that Pye is foaming at the mouth because it tastes pretty terrible. I'm glad to hear that you've rinsed out his mouth! However, since I don't know how much he ingested, I'd recommend calling either the Pet Poison Helpline (855-764-7661) or the ASPCA Poison Control Center (888-426-4435) to discuss this problem with one of their veterinary toxicologists. Odds are good that this shouldn't cause any problems for Pye, but it's best to confirm with them the risk of causing liver problems based on how much of the miconazole that got into his mouth. Unfortunately there is no topical numbing oral solution for cats that I know of but something such as Sucralfate may help alleviate the ulcerations inside of the mouth. I would discuss this with a veterinarian as you will need a prescription to get Sucralfate. If she has stomatitis, she may need to have all of her teeth removed to help resolve this problem. I would not recommend applying Quadritop to her incisions - it contains a corticosteroid that could inhibit healing. You may want to try a compressed paper litter like Yesterday's News since the corn could still get stuck in her incisions even though she's not scratching in the box.

This may cause her to drool profusely. Additionally, if she spits it out, she may not get the full dose needed for protection. Consider using a Pill Pocket or a pill popper to get the medication into her.

I would not continue to use this on your cat. While its only labeled for use in dogs, it has been used successfully and safely in many cats; however, cats are more likely to lick it which could cause her to foam at the mouth and drool. Additionally, she may be hypersensitive to it. Make sure she has fresh water a available, and let her be or a little while. There shouldn't be any major issue, and over the next few hours she should be back to normal. However, if at any point she seems very distressed or is having trouble breathing, or if she starts vomiting, seek emergency care.
