Is it safe if my cat ingested prednisone ear drops while grooming?

I do not recommend giving any pets any human medications without specific instructions from your vet. Steroids have to be given carefully in order to obtain the correct therapeutic effect and they must be weaned off it when finishing a course. This is a discussion best handled by your veterinarian.

Your vet has all the particulars on your cat's condition, so for me just to say its OK to start cutting back on a medication without having any information on why the medication was started in the first place would not be right & may be harmful to your pet. In general this is not advisable since human products are not made to be ingested. Cat grooming themselves very frequently and thus are likely to get the product in their mouth. Most treatments for cats will be systemic. Otherwise the veterinarian will carry pet safe ointments and sprays. Most of these cats will also wear an Elizabethan collar to prevent licking. Posatex is a topical medication for ear infections, and as such it should not be ingested. However, if your dog licked a small amount, the side effects should not be too severe. We can see some GI upset, increased thirst and urination, and possibly adrenal gland suppression. To be extra safe, I'd recommend having your vet check her electrolyte levels in the morning.
