My cat has a red mouth sore. Is Oratene gel safe to use on it?

Eucalyptus oil can be toxic to cats, but this is probably a low enough dose that it would not cause a problem. I am not familiar with Somogel but if your veterinarian recommended it you should continue to apply it as long as Simba doesn't seem to be getting worse. If the sore isn't improving you should make the trip to see the vet - it may need a biopsy.

Poor guy. You can try an over the counter oral rinse or water additive from your local pet store for a few days to a week to see if there is improvement. These products typically provide a really good antiseptic cleanse of the area and can help heal minor lesions around or in the mouth. However, if you notice any swelling, or no improvement within that time frame, its best to have Pete looked at by your vet. He likely will need antibiotics to help it heal if that is the case. Also it is not normal for a pet to loose teeth, so it is best to have Pete a complete oral exam and assessment to ensure he doesn't need further care. I hope that your furry friend gets better soon! Based on the photos, it looks likes the lesion on Vivian's mouth is getting a little worse. I'm thinking she either has an infection that is the primary cause or is having an allergic reaction with a secondary infection. Unless the issue becomes chronic, I would not suspect allergies. At home tips would be to wash (and rinse) the area with a plain antibacterial soap daily. Take care not to get this in her mouth as she may vomit. You have to be careful with cats applying any topical medication since the ingest the product when they groom. I would think Vivian licks the side of her mouth so I would not recommend to apply anything to it. Try switching her food to a different protein source and see if that helps. It will take at least one month before you know if it works or not. Keep in mind if this diet change does not work, that is does not mean that food allergies are not present. Pets can have many types of food allergies. There's also a potential for environmental allergies. If the lesions continues to worsen, take her in to see the veterinarian.

Unfortunately there is no topical numbing oral solution for cats that I know of but something such as Sucralfate may help alleviate the ulcerations inside of the mouth. I would discuss this with a veterinarian as you will need a prescription to get Sucralfate. If she has stomatitis, she may need to have all of her teeth removed to help resolve this problem. Thank you for asking before using this product. Bonjela contains aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) and a local anesthetic that is toxic to cats. You cannot use this on her. It is best to not give her anything. She will be fine.

It is hard to say what this is exactly without seeing Squid and his sores. He may have traumatized the area and it may now be infected. He may need oral antibiotics or other medications from the veterinarian to get these sores to heal as this area is difficult to medicate topically. It is difficult to medicate topically because Squid will likely lick off the medication quickly. Therefore, you will need to make sure that any topical medications used, if they are used, are safe to ingest.
