My cat is spotting after neuter. Should I worry? How to comfort him?

His castration wound looks good, I see no evidence of infection and he is apparently not licking it either. He should indeed be back to his normal self after three days. You may want to take his temperature with a digital rectal thermometer to check whether he has a fever. should he have a fever ( 103+F) he will need to go back to the vet for a recheck. However the whole excitement from being at the vet's, the anesthesia, the drive in the car may just have caught up with him today. If he is not eating, drinking or does not want to play on Monday, I would also take him back for a recheck.

If Benji has a normal energy level, is active and eating and breathing normally with nice pink gums and it is just a small amount of blood, waiting til tomorrow should be alright, If he is lethargic, not eating, breathing rapidly, has pale gums, or is it a constant non stop dripping of blood then an emergency vet visit would be recommended.

Hi there. It can be normal to see a small amount of bleeding from the neuter site for a day or two after surgery, but in my experience, it would be unusual to still be seeing blood after a week. Because of this, I would recommend having Ryker rechecked by your vet to see if anything is wrong.

Some pets will be more active once they wake up from sedation. This is usually temporary and will usually wear off in a few hours. It is very important to try to keep his activity minimal. I recommend to have him contained in one room with his litter box, food and water. Try to pick a room that does not have tall furniture or anything that he may try to climb or jump off and on. You may need to hang out with him until he calms down. Playing classical music may also help and decreasing stimulation in general. I would not be overly concerned when he is normal in every other way, this may just be related to recovery from anesthetic or settling in to his new home. Continue to monitor closely and report it to your vets office if continuing or he develops any discomfort

Unfortunately, there is very little you can do in terms of pain management for a cat at home, as far over the counter medications. They are all dangerous and ineffective. A cat neuter is a typically very simple, quick, and free of complications. So, if he is experiencing this type of reaction now post-operatively, I would be concerned and get him back to whoever performed the procedure. If you take him to an emergency clinic now, they'll be able to do the same and get him medications that will help calm him down, and hopefully make him feel better. The one thing you can try to do if he'll allow it is, if the area where he was operated looks swollen, you can try icing it. Hope this makes sense.
