My cat is sleeping a lot after neuter surgery. Should I be worried?

Some pets will be more active once they wake up from sedation. This is usually temporary and will usually wear off in a few hours. It is very important to try to keep his activity minimal. I recommend to have him contained in one room with his litter box, food and water. Try to pick a room that does not have tall furniture or anything that he may try to climb or jump off and on. You may need to hang out with him until he calms down. Playing classical music may also help and decreasing stimulation in general. Noodle might be sick. By this point, he should be completely recovered from the neuter. I recommend to ave him examined today if possible. If no improvement is observed in the next day or so then have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment to make sure that nothing more serious is going on. Too much activity can lead to swelling at the surgery site. A small amount of oozing can be normal. If it continues or gets worse, then you need to alert your veterinarian. Restrict his activity if possible. That may allow for more rapid healing. Monitor for lethargy, loss of appetite, excessive bleeding or discharge and fever. If Gary is behaving normally and eating normally, then he should, indeed, be fine and healing uneventfully.

I'm very sorry to see this. Six hours is an incredibly long time to neuter a cat. We usually do these in under five minutes. However, a vet assistant is not considered to be qualified enough to do these procedures, so this is likely the reason it took so long. If Munchkin was under anesthesia that long, then this could explain why he is acting like this. Usually, cats are back to their normal selves about 24 hours after the procedure with standard anesthesia protocols. Considering much is unknown about this case and that an unqualified person was performing the procedure, I would be concerned about organ damage or internal bleeding causing him to act like this. For this reason, I recommend you take Munchkin to be evaluated by a vet doctor as soon as possible, so they can help determine the problem and provide the necessary treatment and monitoring. It can definitely be normal for dogs to be quieter than usual for a few days after a surgical procedure. Moki is probably somewhat sore, and may still be getting some of the anesthesia drugs out of his system. As long as he's eating and drinking normally and still gets excited about the things he normally would, I wouldn't be overly concerned. Most dogs are back to normal by 7-10 days after surgery.
