My cat is hyper after neutering. Is this normal? Incision okay?

hi my cat got neutered today and he’s hyper. is this normal? i’m just concerned for his incision because i know there supposed to stay calm. will his incision be okay?

Some pets will be more active once they wake up from sedation. This is usually temporary and will usually wear off in a few hours.
It is very important to try to keep his activity minimal. I recommend to have him contained in one room with his litter box, food and water. Try to pick a room that does not have tall furniture or anything that he may try to climb or jump off and on. You may need to hang out with him until he calms down. Playing classical music may also help and decreasing stimulation in general. If he is still hyper tomorrow, you may want to call his veterinarian and ask about a sedative. Sometimes kittens can actually get hyperactive in response to the sedatives that are used during the procedure. You definitely don’t want Ginger jumping around or being too active. I recommend to shut him either in a small bathroom or a large dog crate. Make sure to provide his food, water and litter box. Hang out with him if you need to until he calms down. I suspect the sniffing is also just a side effect from the sedative. If he does not seem normal by tomorrow, call his veterinarian. My cat is sleeping a lot after neuter surgery. Should I be worried?

His castration wound looks good, I see no evidence of infection and he is apparently not licking it either. He should indeed be back to his normal self after three days. You may want to take his temperature with a digital rectal thermometer to check whether he has a fever. should he have a fever ( 103+F) he will need to go back to the vet for a recheck. However the whole excitement from being at the vet's, the anesthesia, the drive in the car may just have caught up with him today. If he is not eating, drinking or does not want to play on Monday, I would also take him back for a recheck.

My cat is going crazy with his cone after neuter surgery. What to do?

Most cats do hate wearing the cone at home. It is tough to watch them act in this manner. However, in order to help prevent him from both injuring himself trying to get it off and also keeping him from getting to his incision, it may be best to keep him in a small room like the bathroom for tonight, then call your vet on tomorrow and ask for a sedative to give him at home while he still recovers from surgery. My cat was just neutered. Is it safe for him to run and jump?

You should keep Ayden's activity restricted. He may not need to be crated but he should be kept in a bathroom with his litter box, food and water for 7- 14 days. Activity may delay healing. My cat is tired and guarding legs after neuter. Is this normal?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! He may still be having some of the possible post-anesthesia side effects such as tiredness. This can sometimes last 24-36 hours. If no improvement is observed in the next day or so then have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment to make sure that nothing more serious is going on. Sounds like Luna is a handful! He is still young , I suppose, so he has lots of energy and needs to get rid of it. Try to throw him paper balls and play a lot with him to use u some of that energy. He will love you for it. He is obviously recuperating well. Yay no more stinky urine!

My cat is jumping after neuter. Should I confine him for recovery?

Hello, Im glad to hear Felix is already doing well. He should be fine if he is kept quiet for the next several days. To prevent jumping and excessive activity, you may need to confine him to a small pen or crate. However, if this is stressing him out to much, you can also try to confine him to a small room. Ultimately, if he is still not keeping quiet, then just watching him for any bleeding while he wonders around would be the best in order to prevent him from being too stressed.
