My cat has sores near his pee area and licks it. Does he need a vet?

That looks like it should be seen by your vet. Treating the underlying problem that is making him itch or sore in those places and encouraging his licking is important so hopefully this won't happen again. Your vet will do an exam, possibly look at some cells from the lesions under the microscope to see if they can determine what the cause may be, and based on those results will be better able to tell you what is going on and how best to treat it.

Not sure what that is precisely or if it's related to surgery but it definitely requires vet attention by tomorrow. Until then, either place a cone on your kitty to prevent self mutilation or use some sort of onesie. If neither are available you will need to manually continue to discourage this sort of behavior. The area may been to be closed up, and antibiotics and pain meds will likely be prescribed.

He needs to go to the vet. The area is very inflamed and infected and will need antibiotics to be fixed. You can clean the area with mild soap and water to start. make sure to clean the food and water bowl daily and change to a glass or stainless steel one. This can often be an allergic reaction from rubbing against things such as the bowls.

That is unusual. I recommend to have Severus see the veterinarian to get his bladder checked for any signs of infection or crystals in case this is causing a burning sensation. It’s possible this is coincidental to the neuter procedure. Since he can’t talk and tell you if something is wrong, it’s best to play it safe. I'm sorry to hear of your concerns with Milo. It does look like he has a scab on his scrotum. It is possible that he had an injury to the area, a reaction to sutures if they were used during his neuter procedure or an infection that is beginning to heal. If he continues to rub at the area, the scab is not going away or if you notice any redness or drainage, I would recommend that you have him seen by your veterinarian.

It does look like he could have urine scalding around his rear end, it looks in the photo like the fur is wet underneath the red area? I would worry is he sitting in a soiled litterbox or wet area. We don't normally see the fur around the rear end getting soaked with urine in a cat. I would be sure that all the litterboxes are cleaned daily so he isn't sitting in a wet area and also would recommend getting an e-collar for him to stop him from licking the area (they can lick at the penis if they are having cystitis so maybe this is the case). I would bathe the area so there is no more urine present and dry with a hairdryer set on cool and put on an e-collar. I would let your vet know about the issue and they may want to prescribe a topical antibiotic or steroid ointment to use (if you have the dermalone, they may feel this is ok), or just monitor the area closely after bathing and putting on the e-collar.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Lilly! Is the wound right by his penis? If so that is a very hard location to bandage without covering his penis. The skin around the wound is very swollen and red. i am concerned about an abscess or a warble/cuterebra, which is a fly larvae under the skin. I recommend that you take him to the Vet Monday to have the area evaluated and to start antibiotics. Otherwise he needs an E-collar or cone to prevent licking. Good luck!
