My cat is licking sores on his tail and penis. Should I call a vet?

It is unlikely related to the surgery from getting fixed but does look inflamed and infected. Because it has been going on so long, I would take him to the vet to be seen for treatment. They may need to a round of antibiotics and anti inflammatory to help improve it. I would suspect it is an allergy or a previous wound/injury that is just not healing correctly

This looks like a eosinophilic plaque. He needs to see a vet for this condition. Here is an article on this condition. Snowball probably got into a cat fight and those could be bite marks. There may be a bite abscess and I would definitely have this examined by a veterinarian. If it is an abscess, the vet will open it and evacuate the content (pus), flush the abscess cavity and give your kitty prescription antibiotics.

A flea allergy often causes irritation at the tail base or top of the tail. It could be some other cause of inflammation as well, but I would recommend that you start her on a good monthly flea product if she's not already on something. Also, put an e-collar on her to prevent her from licking at it; and if its not improving within a few days, arrange for her to see a vet. Place an e-collar (cone) on Baxter to prevent further licking or chewing. He would need to be physically examined by your veterinarian to determine if antibiotics would be indicated. Keep the area clean and dry. If Baxter allows, gently clean the area to get a better look. Your vet can shave the area if necessary and could perform a fine needle aspirate in the clinic to collect samples of the lump for pathology. Once results are in, options for treatment can be discussed.

It may be a contact allergy to something in the environment. I suggest you put an E-collar on him to stop the licking and apply this spray to the affected area. It does appear that she has a wound on her tail, either from the original injury or from something unrelated. It is difficult to tell from the picture whether or not the wound is extensive enough to need stitches, but it may need antibiotics to help prevent infection. I would recommend she be re-evaluated by her veterinarian to assess the severity of the wound, and if further treatment and/or antibiotics may be needed for it to heal. Good luck!
