My cat is licking a black patch on his neutered testicle. What is it?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year and 9 months old | 14 lbs

My cat had been neutered sometime in feb. Everything was fine and his fur grew back. 2 weeks ago i noticed a black patch on of his testicles similar to that of the hard dark coloured skin that grows after scrapping your self. Today he has been licking it a lot and dragging his bum on the floor. I was adviced to put zinc ointment for diaper rashes on him by a vet. I am still concerned what it could be since my vet told me not to worry about it. Milo's behaviour is very normal

I'm sorry to hear of your concerns with Milo. It does look like he has a scab on his scrotum. It is possible that he had an injury to the area, a reaction to sutures if they were used during his neuter procedure or an infection that is beginning to heal. If he continues to rub at the area, the scab is not going away or if you notice any redness or drainage, I would recommend that you have him seen by your veterinarian.

My neutered cat is still licking and mounting. Is this normal?

That is unusual. I recommend to have Severus see the veterinarian to get his bladder checked for any signs of infection or crystals in case this is causing a burning sensation. It’s possible this is coincidental to the neuter procedure. Since he can’t talk and tell you if something is wrong, it’s best to play it safe. My cat has sores near his pee area and licks it. Does he need a vet?

It is unlikely related to the surgery from getting fixed but does look inflamed and infected. Because it has been going on so long, I would take him to the vet to be seen for treatment. They may need to a round of antibiotics and anti inflammatory to help improve it. I would suspect it is an allergy or a previous wound/injury that is just not healing correctly

My cat's testicles are black and hard two weeks after neutering. Is this normal?

It could just be scar tissue but I would strongly recommend to have your vet just take a peak at them . Your vet will be able to palpate them to ensure there isn't any infection in that area and ensure he doesn't need any antibiotics. I cannot say for sure if they are okay with just a picture. Without an image or exam, it is difficult to determine if the site is infected. He should not be allowed to lick the site. Place an e-collar (cone) on him and have him physically examined by your veterinarian. Not using any sutures for closure may result in an open wound which is at high risk for complications such as infection and bleeding.

Dog licked neuter incision scab. Is bleeding normal after 13 days?

It's normal for a dog to lick the scabs. After 13 days, Milo's incision should be fully healed, and if there is a small amount of blood, I would not worry. I would start worrying if the area appears infected, in which case you would see redness, swelling, the area would be warm to the touch, and you'd see pus. If he is licking the area excessively, then I would put the cone back on and have him see the vet. I hope this helps!
