My cat has a soft, growing bump on her eye. What could it be?

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 14 lbs

My cat has a bump on her eye and I’m not sure what it is. It’s firm but also soft and has gotten bigger over time. She doesn’t seem to be in pain or bothered by it though.

Based on the location, this could be a blocked tear duct. It could also be a cyst or a growth. Do not squeeze it. Have her seen by a vet on Monday to have it treated since it has gotten bigger over time. Best of luck.

I recommend to get that checked out. Anytime something new shows up in the eyes, it's best to play it safe. Pets can get growths on the iris, a build up of protein in the chambers or even bleeding in the eyes. Best of luck.

I'm sorry but the photo is too grainy and blurry for us to see anything. That being said, I would be worried about the bump and I think she should go back to the vet for a follow-up. It could be a tumor or an abscess or a cyst. I don't know. I doubt it is from an injury though. She may be scratching at the face/ear because of an ear issue or because of this mass that was growing. Did your vet look inside the ear canal with an otoscope? If not, I suggest that be done.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to see that Chubbs has a skin problem. This could be a small area of bacterial infection or a cyst if it has fluid in it other than pus. This could be associated with one of the many glands in the skin causing a sebaceous cyst. Other causes are a bite from a parasite (flea, tick, mite) or insect (spider/ant) among others. I would warm compress the area if Chubbs will let you to see if you can get it to come to a head and drain. You can also put Neosporin right on the area, it won't harm either if ingested. Continue to monitor the area. If it worsens, spreads, persists, have your vet check it out. They can get a first hand look and advise on how to proceed. I have a feeling just by the picture that this may resolve on it's own with some simple treatment as described. Good luck with Chubbs.

Ouch! Since that is so close to the eye, it should be seen by a vet in person just to make sure it doesn't become infected and spread to the eye itself, and to try and figure out what may have caused the initial injury. Your vet can also provide any pain or antibiotic medications as needed to help the spot heal. Until you can get to the vet, it is best to keep the spot clean and dry, and make sure that the eye isn't bothered. An Elizabethan (cone) collar is also a good idea to prevent scratching at it which can lead to infection or accidental scratching of the eye.

My cat's eye is weeping with pus and a lump appeared. Is it serious?

Oh my. This appears to possibly be an injury to the eye and subsequent infection. It is hard to tell the degree of injury based on the photos, a vet exam is definitely needed her. I would highly recommend taking Mow to your local vet right away to get this eye tested, fully examined and treated. Best case scenario is that there isn't permanent damage done to this eye and antibiotics/pain medication /- drainage of a potential abscess are needed to get Mow better. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Betsy. She may have experienced an insect bite or sting as you mentioned. If this is the case, the swelling should start resolving within 24 hours. If it gets bigger or she develops difficulty breathing, these are signs of an allergic reaction. She will need to see her veterinarian. If the eye itself is red or develops discharge, she will need to have this evaluated as well. If the swelling starts to come down and she is otherwise acting normal, then she will be just fine. Hello. In terms of your cats, the first one with the eye getting bigger than the other really needs to be seen by a vet as soon as possible. Glaucoma is a very serious condition and in order to not lose vision in the eye you want to treat it right away. This is also a very painful condition. The other cat, with a bump that looks like a zit, could just be a sebaceous cyst. It is always best to get it checked out, however if it isn't growing or changing, or causing your cat issues, you can monitor it for now and have it seen at your next appointment with your vet.
