My cat has small wounds on her back/bottom. Should I take her to vet?

Good evening, I'm just writing in regards to, two small wounds I have found on my cats back/bottom that I have noticed recently. She doesn't seem to be in any pain but I am concerned as I'm not sure in what way we can help her. I look forward to hearing back from you.

I'm sorry to hear Pepper is having issues. I would recommend having the wounds evaluated by her regular veterinarian to determine their severity and any treatment (antibiotics or antiinflammatories) that may be needed. We would be concerned that while the superficial part of the wound is small, there could be a large pocket underneath the skin that could lead to an abscess. If there is a chance that the wounds came from a fight with another animal, we would be concerned that they could become infected. While I am not familiar with the laws in the U.K., Here in the US, if the wounds could have come from an unknown source outside we would also need to booster her rabies vaccine.

These sound like wounds from being in a bad fight with another cat. It’s best to have these treated by your veterinarian if you can. In the meantime clean each wound with hydrogen peroxide and then apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on them. I’m concerned about the ones around his anus. There may be a tear in the rectum that may be very serious and need a veterinary exam to determine if the feces are coming out the wound. If so this could cause more infection and may need to be stitched closed. Antibiotics will help these wounds heal more quickly also. My cat has a deep leg wound but seems fine. Should I go to the vet?

Hello I can't tell from the picture how deep that wound is but it does look infected and there's underlying tissue and possibly muscle exposed. I recommend takinh your cat to see a veterinarian as she could be licking at the site when you're not watching and causing further infection. It may need to be closed or the vet may decide it should stay open (with some infected wounds closing can cause an abscess to form) and put her on antibiotics and pain medication. She might also need an E collar to prevent her from licking the area further.

Antibiotic ointment may not by enough to treat it and Collic possibly will need a course of antibiotic in form of tablets to get back to normal. I would recommend Collic to be checked over by your local vets to fully assess the wound and to recommend the best treatment option.

My cat was bitten and has a puncture wound. Does she need a vet?

Yes. I would recommend to take her to the vet. The doctor will likely put her on antibiotics to try to clean up the infection. You also need to make sure that she is not licking at the area as this can make it worse. She should wear an Elizabethan collar at all times and be kept indoors completely until the wound is completely healed.
