My cat was in a fight. Do his wounds need vet care or antibiotics?

Abscesses required opening them up and antibiotics. The only thing you can do is clean the wounds twice daily with warm water and a mild soap and warm compress the wounds after each cleaning for the next 3-5 days. I wish you the best!

These could indeed be fight and bite wounds. Usually they heal by themselves, however sometimes they turn into abscesses which would need to be addressed. Check for swelling, pain , fluctuation, fever, pussy discharge. If any of this occurs, take Sivko to a veterinarian for an exam.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Boris. It is best to have him seen by a veterinarian. Cat scratches and bites commonly become infected. If so, antibiotics may be required. Yes, I do think that Bramble should see a veterinarian as he will likely require local therapy if it is an abscess with drainage and cleaning as well as oral antibiotics. At the same time, your veterinarian can check his eyes to see if they are also affected and treat accordingly. Good luck!

Poor Lucid! He really needs to be examined by a vet for treatment. The wounds will need to be cleaned and the bleeding will need to be controlled. He will also need an antibiotic to treat infection. Without an antibiotic there is a good chance he will develop an abscess from the bite wounds. Hope he recovers quickly.

It's so great that you are looking after these cats. A better option for Spinx might be an injection called Convenia which last 19-14 days so they don't have to keep getting oral medications. It also tends to be very effective against abscesses. It does have to be given by a veterinarian but at that time you could discuss having him neutered to potentially decrease the fighting. Also with how this one looks it may need to be cleaned out by veterinarian order to heal. Because he may not be easy to handle sedation maybe effective for him at the time of that appointment. Alternatively there are some that in areas that you have calls which you can look into.

It is very hard to tell by the picture, but at this time it appears to be a superficial wound and not very deep. I do not appreciate any swelling around the lesion. At this time if Patxi is eating, drinking, non painful and does not have a fever I would continue to treat it topically. At anytime Patxi develops a fever ,swelling under the lesion or change in behavior I would think antibiotics are warranted.
