Is my cat's skin reaction or blister from a vet injection post-spay?

It does not look like post-injection reaction. I would rather suspect an insect bite, reaction to a tick, cat bite (if Ori goes out at all) or self-inflicted small wound from scratching the area. Please, keep an eye on it, small skin wounds often heal rapidly without treatment. If there is any discharge from the wound you can use 4% chlorhexidine skin solution to clean it. If it gets bigger or starts bothering Ori, take her to your local vets for a check.

Looks like Bolinha is having a mild skin reaction perhaps to the vaccine, if it was injected in this area. This isn't considered normal but it is a reaction and it is best to notify your vet that this occurred. A pre-medicaiton can be given before this vaccine is given in the future to help avoid this from happening again. Unfortunately the hair may not grow back, but as long as he is not having any other symptoms (lethargy, not eating, vomiting) then he should be ok. Given the red and irritated appearance of Nellie’s skin, I’m concerned that she either has a skin infection (usually from excessive licking with underlying allergies) or an allergic reaction (contact dermatitis) to something in her environment. The white plaques appear to be skin crusts, which can occur with either of these situations. At this point, your best bet is to take Nellie to her vet for evaluation. She may need a course of antibiotics or topical medications to get this issue under control. Until her appointment, be sure to keep an e-collar (cone) on her so that she doesn’t lick herself and make matters worse. I hope that everything goes well!

I recommend you just leave it alone. It is very common for cats to get a suture reaction to the stitches under the skin after being spayed. It should heal just fine on it's own but if you would like to post again with a photo we may be able to help you better.

Hello, I am glad your kitten is recovering smoothly from her procedure. It looks like the skin may be a little dry from the cleaning agents used to prep patients for surgery. However, this should resolve/improve within a few days. If at her 10-14 day post-operative, her skin is still not looking healed, your veterinarian may chose to perform additional diagnostics at the site. Alternatively, if your kitten is licking at the area, she may be causing some irritation to the skin there. Please make sure she is not licking the area by placing an e-collar on her if necessary. Monitor the are for any swelling, redness, discharge and contact your veterinarian if you note any as this could indicate a local infection or reaction to the suture material. Hi, and thanks for your question. This could be due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). I'm sorry to hear that Spaz has such uncomfortable skin lesions! Some common causes of scabs over the back include underlying allergies (to food, the environment, or fleas, ringworm, or other inflammatory issues. Make sure that Spaz is receiving a high quality flea preventative once a month (such as Advantage or Revolution), even though you are not seeing fleas. Some animals are highly allergic to flea bites, such that the fleas saliva injected after one bite can incite an allergic reaction, even if you are not finding fleas on her skin. Fleas can enter the house on our clothing and then hop over to our indoor pets. Since her skin lesions have not responded to antibiotic injections (I assume Convenia?), she may need to try a different class of oral antibiotics, as well as corticosteroids or other allergy management medications. Spaz should go back to her vet for a recheck to discuss these other medication options. If she does have allergies, it can take a good bit of time and trial and error to help her achieve some relief.
