Noticed a shaved spot on my cat's leg after neutering. Is it normal?

What you describe certainly is not normal after a minor surgery such as a neuter. However, I am suspicious that he may have a skin infection, ringworm, or even possibly mites. Sometimes if they have a minor infection or mites then the stress of surgery can cause it to get worse. The picture is difficult to make out, but it almost looks like a piece of body tissue hanging out. Was he recently neutered? If so I would recommend having a follow up appointment with your veterinarian to see if there is any infection or problem at the neuter site. Good luck and I hope he is back to normal soon.

As long as there are no other bruises similar to this showing up anywhere else on the body, I would recommend keeping an eye on this for now. If it does not resolve or it worsens, then I would have this examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I'm suspicious of a couple of different reasons for this type of mass that you are describing: 1) Possibly from a vaccine - it's common to vaccinate at the time of surgery and this may be where the vaccine was given. It's common for there to be a little lump there for a week or two after vaccinating. 2) A lymph node - This is about the location of the axillary lymph nodes. These can normally increase in size after procedures and vaccination. As long as Preston is not having any other issues, I think it will be fine to just monitor this mass. If it grows, or has any other dramatic changes, then it will be best to take him for a recheck exam by the vet who did the surgery. Otherwise, it's possible that this will go down in the next couple of weeks. I hope that helps and all is well with Preston.

Hello. It is difficult to tell if the neuter incision is OK, but it does not look too bad to me. If you are concerned, definitely get with your vet soon. As for the ear, I have NEVER heard of a veterinary practice clipping a cat's ear to signify it has been neutered when it is a personally owned cat. In many communities, wild & feral cats that have no owners are trapped, neutered & the ear clipped to signify the surgery has been done. These cats are then released back into their pre-captured territories to live out their lives. I would find out if this is a normal procedure in your area & if not, I would definitely complain to the practice owner & possibly even to the your state veterinary board. I can understand a small tattoo mark to signify the surgery ( although it is pretty obvious in a male cat ), but this is totally uncalled for & I am so sorry this happened to your pet.
