What's this painless spot on my cat's leg a month after surgery?

However, this does warrant an evaluation as soon as possible for further assessment and treatment. There is a possibility that this skin defect can be closed but that depends on an examination and if it makes sense clinically. This could be a benign or malignant growth. There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Hi there, and thank you for including the picture as it is helpful. I see the area in question and it looks like a large scab from the incision may have come off. Of course a picture is not as helpful as seeing the wound in person but the underlying tissue looks healthy. This may take several weeks to completely heal and seal closed. I would encourage you to have a follow up appointment with your veterinarian in the next few days to make sure they don’t have any other concerns. This looks like a shaved area of fur where the IV would have been placed for the procedure. It's difficult to tell the position from the photo, but if this spot is near the crook of the elbow, then that is definitely what it is. Otherwise, the skin looks healthy and the area of hair loss is too neat to be due to any bad causes. I think you are fine to wait and see if it starts growing hair and doesn't have any signs of infection (flakey skin, redness, scabs, pus). If all looks OK, then the area should be back to normal is about 3-5 weeks. I hope that helps and all is well with Quavo..

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be due to ringworm. This could also be just a focal skin bacterial infection, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and treat accordingly. This may be a reaction to a vaccine if administered recently that should disappear with time. I recommend keeping an eye on it and having the spot seen by a vet if there is any discharge, bleeding, increase in size, or it seems to be bothering him. I hope this helps and that all is well!
