My cat had arm surgery. Is her shaking and paw pain normal after?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Marvel. The paws may have been closed with tissue glue as opposed to stitches. The paws will feel different to her and are likely still sore. Give the pain medications as directed and try to keep her quiet. The more she moves initially, the more pressure on her paws which will result in discomfort. I am sorry to hear Boronito has a hurt paw. There may be many causes for this including a puncture wound to the paw, some foreign material stuck between his paws, or a fracture to the limb. If he is shaking, he is probably in a lot of pain and discomfort from the injury. He will need an x-ray of the limb and an exam of the paw to determine what the cause may be. He may also need to be on pain medications or other medications as needed as well. Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done from home except for trying to immobilizing the limb. There are no safe pain medications to give cats over the counter. I have included an article below about ways to make veterinary visits less expensive. Unfortunately without seeing Tuca in person, I can't say if it's broken or not. There could be a fracture in the bone, and a small fracture could allow her to walk and climb but have pain when touched. You will need to take her into the vet to get an x-ray done of her paw, that is the only way to tell if it's broken or not. I recommend taking her into the vet in the morning. I hope this helps!

Since he's so young the leg may heal fine on its own. As long as he's eating let him rest and give him a day or two to get better. It is possible that Susie might have injured her paw. The injury could be related to the muscles or ligaments in the foot or it is possible that the bones may be fractured, depending on what happened. If Susie does not start walking on the foot, you should take her to the veterinarian to determine what kind of injury she has. Your veterinarian will also be able to prescribe pain medications and/or anti-inflammatories that will make Susie more comfortable. In the meanwhile, do not give her any human pain medications as these can sometimes be lethal to cats.

Have her rechecked and possibly xrayed by your veterinarian or the operating surgeon. The pin may have migrated or moved just enough to cause pain. Restrict her activity as much as possible until the exam.

There can be many sources of pain. Fractured bones are a possibility. There are many tiny bones in the paws, but if Mizzy lets you press firmly on all 4 paws, long leg bones, and along the back and ribs, she may not have anything broken. Second, ligaments or muscles can strain or tear. Sometimes this causes swelling and pain in a specific place, but not all the time. Third, she could have a wound or bruising in an area that is hard to see because of the fur. I would recommend just monitoring her for a few days. Watch her eating and drinking, and watch for improvement of the limp. If any thing changes or isn't better in a few days, she should be evaluated by a vet. Mizzy should also stay inside during this monitoring phase since cat's that are sick or painful may hide and don't always come back home for you to care for them.
