Will 3 days of secondhand smoke harm my cat in another room?

Unfortunately, second hand smoke is just as bad for cats as it is for humans. The good news is that many many pets and humans have lived with second hand smoke - it's far some ideal, but not a death sentence. It's helpful to take Noushmc to a different room while your father smokes and I would continue doing that. It would be ideal to set up an area where there is no cigarette smoke where Noushmc can live (or have your father smoke outside), but that's probably unrealistic. I would recommend letting your veterinarian know that she is exposed to second hand smoke if she ever needs treatment for a respiratory disease - it may not change anything, but it will be good for the veterinarian to know. To my knowledge there have yet to be any studies on the use of marajuana around cats. Cats however, have been affected by second hand smoke in the same ways that humans are. It is therefore not a good idea to smoke in the same room as a pet. It is a safer choice to smoke outside of the home or out of an open window.

It takes a very long time for signs to be apparent, as the body continuously fights the inhaled substances. Cats can indeed get lung cancer from inhaled smoke, and other respiratory problems, just like children. Passive smoking is just as dangerous for pets as it is for children. When I went to vet school we did a post mortem on a cat that had black lungs from passive smoking. When symptoms/signs appear, there is usually irrepairable damage. It is best to make sure the cat gets exposed as little as possible to smoke. Best keep the house ventilated as much as possible , so the smoke does not linger in the house.

Clinical signs of marijuana toxicosis in cats include drooling, increased locomotor activity (e.g. wandering aimlessly, spontaneous jumping behavior), sedation, depression, anxiety, head bobbing/weaving, swaying from side to side, disorientation, vocalization, agitation, aggression, drinking excessively, difficulty swallowing, sneezing, not eating, seizures, diarrhea, and vomiting. Please monitor her carefully for the next 12-24 hours. If you notice any severe symptoms you will need to take her to your veterinarian. I cannot say how long it will be in her system as I do not know how much she inhaled. My guess would be less than 12 hours for one episode of direct inhalation but each individual animal is different in how they react (just like humans). If he was not in the same room, then his risk of inhaling smoke is decreased. It is the same risk as a human child inhaling second-hand smoke. The best thing from here on out is to only smoke outside and don't have your dog in the same area when you smoke. If he seems to have an increased breathing rate or coughing, it is a good idea to have him examined by a vet.

If Miracle is away from the area that was painted and being kept in a well-ventilated area, I wouldn't be too concerned. Once the painted rooms have aired out some, she should be OK to go back in there. If you notice any issues such as respiratory distress, coughing, sneezing, etc, then moving her back to ventilation is best.

No one can give you an accurate answer for that i'm afraid, generally speaking fatal or long term effect of marijuana are extremely rare. too much smoke for your cat is not good, it doesn't matter if it is weed or cigarettes or cigars. ingestion of marijuana is a little more dangerous, i would be extremely careful not dropping it on the floor and hide it properly the cat cannot get to it.
