Can secondhand pot smoke cause stress or behavior issues in cats?

No one can give you an accurate answer for that i'm afraid, generally speaking fatal or long term effect of marijuana are extremely rare. too much smoke for your cat is not good, it doesn't matter if it is weed or cigarettes or cigars. ingestion of marijuana is a little more dangerous, i would be extremely careful not dropping it on the floor and hide it properly the cat cannot get to it.

If Mika has asthma, bronchitis, or some other chronic respiratory condition, then this could be aggravated by exposure to the cigarette smoke. But if she's healthy with no pre-existing issues, I would not expect a few days of secondhand smoke exposure to cause any significant problems.

Unfortunately, second hand smoke is just as bad for cats as it is for humans. The good news is that many many pets and humans have lived with second hand smoke - it's far some ideal, but not a death sentence. It's helpful to take Noushmc to a different room while your father smokes and I would continue doing that. It would be ideal to set up an area where there is no cigarette smoke where Noushmc can live (or have your father smoke outside), but that's probably unrealistic. I would recommend letting your veterinarian know that she is exposed to second hand smoke if she ever needs treatment for a respiratory disease - it may not change anything, but it will be good for the veterinarian to know. Hello, thank you for using PetCoach. Mild intoxication can occur from exposure to second-hand marijuana smoke. Clinical signs of marijuana toxicosis in cats include drooling, increased locomotor activity (e.g. wandering aimlessly, spontaneous jumping behavior), sedation, depression, anxiety, head bobbing/weaving, swaying from side to side, disorientation, vocalization, agitation, aggression, drinking excessively, difficulty swallowing, sneezing, not eating, seizures, diarrhea, and vomiting. Please monitor her carefully for the next 12-24 hours. If you notice any severe symptoms you will need to take her to your veterinarian. I cannot say how long it will be in her system as I do not know how much she inhaled. My guess would be less than 12 hours for one episode of direct inhalation but each individual animal is different in how they react (just like humans). Of course it is harmful, dog's lungs are a lot smaller than ours so any smoke is dangerous to them especially when in a confined space. Repeated exposure to cannabis is also unlikely to be good for the dog's brain. I would get your boyfriend to smoke out the window if he must, or ask him to refrain completely in your home.

Of course being around other cats no matter what the number is can cause significant stress if the cats don't get along, especially if one constantly torments another one. Cats are very sensitive to this and can suffer very high levels of anxiety and stress hormones but outwardly appear fairly normal. Many health and behavioral problems can develop amongst a population of cats where the relationships are not good. Everyone thinks that all of the cats or all of the dogs will get along, but in reality a significant amount of stress can be involved in certain settings depending upon the animals involved and their interpersonal relationships. It takes a very long time for signs to be apparent, as the body continuously fights the inhaled substances. Cats can indeed get lung cancer from inhaled smoke, and other respiratory problems, just like children. Passive smoking is just as dangerous for pets as it is for children. When I went to vet school we did a post mortem on a cat that had black lungs from passive smoking. When symptoms/signs appear, there is usually irrepairable damage. It is best to make sure the cat gets exposed as little as possible to smoke. Best keep the house ventilated as much as possible , so the smoke does not linger in the house.
