My cat has runny nose, vomits, and lethargy. Is a vet visit urgent?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year and 5 months old | 10 lbs

My cat had a runny nose, clear liquid. He vomited once. And now seems lethargic. Do I need to see a vet immediately or can I go tomorrow? Do I need to go at all? He is responsive and is following me when I go to a different room, just definitely lethargic.

You definitely don't need to rush him to the vet now, but may want to take him within the next day or two. It appears that Lenny is coming down with an upper respiratory infection. Early in the infection they tend to feel bad and get more lethargic. The vomiting could also be explained by this general malaise that is felt.

Often, these upper respiratory infections are caused by a virus and there is not a specific treatment for it; so the need for medication usually depends on the severity of the infection. Since Lenny is obviously not feeling well, he could have a high temperature and a vet may prescribe medication to make him feel better. They may also prescribe antibiotics if they are worried about a bacterial infection.

I think it's fine to wait until tomorrow and see how he is doing. If he still feels bad, or seems worse, then it's best to have a vet evaluate him.

I would err on the side of caution and get them seen today if you can, tomorrow, especially if they don't seem better. The vomitus looks like a hairball to me, but it's hard to tell. They may have overeaten, but unless that's something they already do, given the opportunity, I don't see that being as likely as something else, possibly getting into something they shouldn't have. Your vet will do an exam, possibly bloodwork, and maybe more//other diagnostics depending on what they find. Based on these results, your vet will have a better idea of what's going on and be able to recommend a treatment plan if needed.

What a gorgeous cat! I am sorry he is not feeling well. Licking his lips is a sign of nausea. Even though he may not be vomiting today he is showing signs that he is still not feeling well. If he is eating (even small amounts) and drinking water as well as interacting with you, urinating, and defecating than he may be able to wait until Wednesday. However, if Michaleto's breathing continues to be abnormal at all to you this may be a sign that he is in pain or has some sort of disease of his heart or lungs. Any abnormal breathing - whether fast or hard - should be seen as soon as possible by a veterinarian. I hope he is feeling better soon.

There's enough going on with poor Loki, that I would definitely take him to the vet. The vomiting and the coughing may be related and is suspicious of a lower airway disease. It's not likely to be something severe like cancer, so should be easily treated when the cause of the coughing, sneezing and vomiting is discovered. The tiredness is also a sign of infection. It doesn't appear to be an emergency, but will be good to have him seen by a vet in the next 24 hours. I hope that helps and Loki gets better soon.

My cat is lethargic, vomiting, and has diarrhea. Should I see a vet?

Poor Binx! Yes, this is a vet visit when a cat is both vomiting and having diarrhea as well as being very lethargic. I'm concerning he's throwing up water as well, and that can quickly lead to dehydration.
