When to take my cat to the vet for sneezing, lethargy, eating less?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 6 lbs

My cat is sneezing and acting lethargic -- no discharge from eyes or nose -- drinking normally -- starting to eat less. At what point do I need to take her to the vet?

I am sorry to hear about Luna. Since she is lethargic and has a decreased appetite, I would recommend she have an examination by her vet. She may have an upper respiratory infection that requires treatment, and reasons we recommend veterinary care include lethargy, decreased appetite, trouble breathing, coughing. Sneezing in cats is most commonly due to an upper respiratory tract infection which can be caused by a virus or bacteria. Your veterinarian will be able to prescribe appropriate treatment if this is what is going on. Because your cat is lethargic it is important that she get to a veterinarian as soon as possible.

This could be due to a respiratory infection (viral or bacterial). I would recommend taking Dolli in to be seen by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Dolli may need an antibiotic and other supplementation / medication to help alleviate symptoms.

Hello. It sounds like Misty has a pretty good upper respiratory infection. I am glad that you have already started the lysine. As long as appetite is good, I would not be overly concerned. Some of these respiratory viruses can hang on for several weeks. Keep Misty indoors & as stress-free as possible. If she develops any lethargy, quits eating or develops anything more than a clear or serous ocular/nasal discharge, then please see your veterinarian. As long as Heidi is eating & drinking, she may not need to be on any medications. If you have never had her tested for feline leukemia & feline immunodeficiency virus ( & never vaccinated ), this might be something to request that your vet do this. This might change how she is or is not treated now & in the future. Just like with us, keeping her hydrated & eating are the best ways to deal with these infections. My cat is throwing up, not eating, and sneezing a lot. What's wrong?

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Vomiting several times a day for a week along with not eating or drinking much is certainly concerning. The sneezing could indicate a respiratory infection. There are lots of health reasons for her symptoms and Lilly really should see her veterinarian as soon as possible to have her evaluated and treated. Your veterinarian will do an exam and may recommend additional testing such as blood work or x-rays to pin down a cause so Lilly can get the treatment she needs and start to feel better.

My 16-year-old cat is sneezing and breathing loud. Should I see a vet?

Sunshine probably has an upper respiratory infection, or cold. As this is a viral infection It will run its course in a week or so. As long as she's just quiet and resting, eating a drinking some then you do not need to bring her in. If she should stop eating, the eye and nose discharge turns green and she becomes very lethargic then she may have a secondary bacterial infection that would need to be treated by your veterinarian. Sunshine is an older cat so if she's not recovering well then don't wait too long to bring her for an exam. My cat has runny nose, vomits, and lethargy. Is a vet visit urgent?

You definitely don't need to rush him to the vet now, but may want to take him within the next day or two. It appears that Lenny is coming down with an upper respiratory infection. Early in the infection they tend to feel bad and get more lethargic. The vomiting could also be explained by this general malaise that is felt. Often, these upper respiratory infections are caused by a virus and there is not a specific treatment for it; so the need for medication usually depends on the severity of the infection. Since Lenny is obviously not feeling well, he could have a high temperature and a vet may prescribe medication to make him feel better. They may also prescribe antibiotics if they are worried about a bacterial infection. I think it's fine to wait until tomorrow and see how he is doing. If he still feels bad, or seems worse, then it's best to have a vet evaluate him. I hope that helps and Lenny feels better soon.
