Why is my cat suddenly quiet, slow, hiding, and crying in pain?

I'm sorry Minx isn't doing well! I would not be concerned about her nose being warm and dry. The temperature and moisture of the nose is not used as a sign of illness in cats. That's because it can go from cold and wet to warm and dry just by lying near a heat source or in the sun. It is concerning that she has vomiting, had soft stool, and is now quiet. She could have a GI illness, may have eaten something rotten, could have a foreign body, or could have pancreatitis. I can give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps. I recommend withholding food for 12-24 hours, then feeding a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. While Jax's symptoms are non-specific, you are right to be concerned. It is not normal to have such a sudden decrease in energy levels, and the high-pitched noises could indicate pain. I recommend you make an appointment to have Jax seen by a veterinarian near you to help determine what is going on so that it can be treated appropriately. It sounds like poor Nin Nin has been through a lot lately.! From your description, it appears to me that she is definitely in pain, which would cause her to be lethargic, cry when she is picked up, and trembling why laying down. I'm glad her x-rays were fine, but I can she how that would be frustrating for you to not have a definitive. Please know that without seeing her in person, I can't say this for certain, but I wouldn't be surprised if she did have a pulled muscle or maybe have torn one. That won't show up on x-rays, and would explain her symptoms. These can be very painful, and it can take weeks for it to heal. I would keep in touch with your vet about her level of pain, and if she doesn't appear to get any better over the next week or two, gets more painful, stops eating and drinking, and/or stops using her littler box, I would get her back into her vet asap. Hello Matthew! I am sorry to hear about Spotty. I would be very concerned about her. Cats are usually very good at hiding their pain, so if she is obviously yelping she is definitely in pain. I would recommend an examination by a veterinarian as soon as possible. They will do an exam and try to localize the pain to a certain area. I am concerned about her abdomen due to her lack of appetite. Things that would concern me in a young adult cat such as Spotty are foreign boys in the intestinal tract (did she eat a toy or a ribbon etc) or possible kidney infections. The vet will most likely want to do some bloodworm and possibly some radiographs (x-rays). If she hasn't been eating or drinking, she might need some supportive care such as IV fluids.

She could have pulled a muscle or have an infection somewhere. Once the source of her discomfort is located, a vet can get her medications to help her feel better, including pain medications. Given that Minx is a young male cat and having abnormal urinations and likely blood in his urine, I suspect that he may be suffering from Feline Idiopathic Cystitis (FIC), or inflammation in the lower urinary tract. This is causing him difficulty urinating, and painful urination. I recommend having him seen by a veterinarian right away, before he becomes fully "blocked", meaning unable to pass any urine at all. This is a life-threatening emergency, and requires rapid veterinary attention. Your veterinarian will perform a physical exam and likely recommend bloodwork to evaluate the severity of his urinary tract disease. FIC is a treatable condition, but again, if he becomes unable to pass any urine at all, he can experience acute kidney failure and develop fatal heart rhythms. I hope this is helpful!

Cats are SOOO good at hiding pain. I rarely find a cat will be obvious about the source of pain. The fact that she is moving slowly and carefully tells me that she does hurt, but she is hiding it. I recommend taking Shy to a veterinarian for a thorough exam. They might be able to localize the pain to a limb which is making her not want to move, or to her abdomen which causes her to lie down more. Young cats are very susceptible to foreign objects- weird things that they have eaten and get stuck in their intestines. Young cats are also susceptible to trauma especially if they are allowed outdoor. The vet will localize where the problem is and recommend blood work or x-rays for diagnostics.
