My cat is peeing blood, crying, and won't eat. What should I do?

Minx is not using the cat box, refusing to eat, crying and now there is spots on blood on the floor. Help

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Given that Minx is a young male cat and having abnormal urinations and likely blood in his urine, I suspect that he may be suffering from Feline Idiopathic Cystitis (FIC), or inflammation in the lower urinary tract. This is causing him difficulty urinating, and painful urination. I recommend having him seen by a veterinarian right away, before he becomes fully "blocked", meaning unable to pass any urine at all. This is a life-threatening emergency, and requires rapid veterinary attention. Your veterinarian will perform a physical exam and likely recommend bloodwork to evaluate the severity of his urinary tract disease. FIC is a treatable condition, but again, if he becomes unable to pass any urine at all, he can experience acute kidney failure and develop fatal heart rhythms. I hope this is helpful!

I'm sorry that Mini is having these issues! These signs can indicate a serious issue in a cat like a urinary blockage, cystitis, or bladder stones. A urinary blockage is a life threatening condition in male cats because it will cause severe blood work abnormalities and can even result in the bladder rupturing. Because of this possibility I'd recommend having Mini examined by a veterinarian right away. If he is blocked he will likely need emergency treatment like a urinary catheter and fluids.

If Mini has bladder inflammation (cystitis) he will likely also need treatment to resolve the pain associated with this condition. Cystitis can lead to a urinary blockage, so again, it's important to have Mini seen by a veterinarian right away.

Poor guy. He likely has a urinary tract infection or cystitis (inflamed bladder usually due to stress). I would recommend taking him to your vet for a urine test to determine which is present so that he is treated appropriately. As long as he is otherwise acting normal and able to urinate at will, then it isn't considered an emergency at this point. Getting him seen on Monday or the day after should be ok. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Julie! Blood in the urine can indicate a urinary tract infection, crystals in the urine or bladder stones. She may not be eating because she is uncomfortable or has a fever. I recommend that Julie sees a Veterinarian. They may check her urine for infection or crystals. If she is older they may want to run blood work. They also may want to take an X-ray to check for a bladder stone. If it is a urinary tract infection she needs antibiotics. If it is crystals in the urine then we usually change the diet. If bladder stones, ideally surgery is recommended. I hope this helps and I wish Julie a speedy recovery!

Poor Bear! He definitely needs to see a veterinarian right away as this can be a sign of serious bladder issues like cystitis, lower urinary tract disease, bladder stones, or urinary blockage. A urinary blockage is a life threatening emergency so Bear needs to see a veterinarian immediately for treatment. A veterinarian can examine Bear to see if he has a blockage and if necessary pass a urinary catheter and give Bear fluids. Hello Melissa. Blood in the urine is an indication of significant inflammation in the urinary bladder. Because a male cat's urethra is so tiny, it is very important to have this looked at as soon as possible to prevent a possible blockage. I would make an appointment with the veterinarian as soon as possible so that Sable does not wind up being blocked & unable to urinate. Why is my male cat bleeding from his rear and acting strangely?

I would be very suspicious that he had a urinary blockage, was able to pass the obstructing material and that's when he got all wet and litter covered and may have passed blood. It would be the best plan if action to take him to your veterinarian for an exam and a urinalysis. Explain exactly what is going on. He may have an infection, crystalsi in his urine or bladder stones. If he was obstructed, he could do it again very soon and this can be a life threatening emergency.

It is usually related to bacterial infection of the bladder but it may be due to bladder crystals or stress.
