Why is my cat suddenly struggling to jump and acting very quiet?

Hello. I am so sorry that poor Blackie is not feeling well. I am not sure what a mood booster is, we have nothing like this in the US, but your veterinarians should be doing blood work to check her feline leukemia & feline AIDS status, a complete blood count with blood smear to look for red cell parasites, serum chemistry & urinalysis. We do have appetite stimulants that may help, but Blackie should possibly be on antibiotics & a syringable food to at least get some calories into her. Cats are SOOO good at hiding pain. I rarely find a cat will be obvious about the source of pain. The fact that she is moving slowly and carefully tells me that she does hurt, but she is hiding it. I recommend taking Shy to a veterinarian for a thorough exam. They might be able to localize the pain to a limb which is making her not want to move, or to her abdomen which causes her to lie down more. Young cats are very susceptible to foreign objects- weird things that they have eaten and get stuck in their intestines. Young cats are also susceptible to trauma especially if they are allowed outdoor. The vet will localize where the problem is and recommend blood work or x-rays for diagnostics. If he does, even if you can't find one right now I would be concerned that he suffered a bite of some kind, as cats can develop abscesses fairly easily when they suffer a trauma. I would be concerned by his behavior, as it does sound like there may be an underlying issue going on, such as an infection, GI upset, or an underlying medical issue (such as kidney disease or diabetes). If he doesn't perk up, start eating and getting some energy back, I would recommend he be evaluated by his regular veterinarian to determine the underlying cause for his change in behavior, have any necessary testing done (xrays, bloodwork) and start any treatment he may need to resolve it. Hi Courtney! It sounds like Millie is in pain, and that’s why she can’t jump on things she used to, is walking stiffly, and is sleeping a lot. Please do not give her any human pain medications as many are toxic to cats and are fatal if given. You need to take her into a vet today or tomorrow to get checked out. I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I would recommend taking Charlie to the vet. He is getting older, but isn't very old when some cats live into their 20s. There are some diseases that can cause weakness or loss of muscle, or her may have some arthritis making jumping difficult. The vet may recommend bloodwork to assess his overall health, possibly x-rays and may be able to prescribe medication to help Charlie get back to normal activity. DO NOT give any human or over the counter medications to cats, as many can cause a fatal toxicity. I hope Charlie is back to normal soon.

If Shadow's appetite is decreased and she is lethargic, I would recommend having her seen by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I recommend that you have Kitty reevaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment since things have not improved. Likely diagnostics include radiographs. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least they can prescribe pain control medications to make kitty feel better. In the meantime, reduce his activity as much as possible as that in itself can make a big difference. Good luck and have a good day!
