Is pink skin normal after cat's Advantage Multi flea treatment?

As long as Sushi's behavior is normal and the only sign you are seeing is the change in color of the fur I wouldn't worry too much. I would consider changing to a different formulation of flea control, like a collar or oral (i.e. Seresto, Comfortis). If you continue with topical medication you want to make sure that you are getting the medication on the skin only. I know this can be difficult because there is so much in those vials. You can part the hair a little further up her neck toward her head to give you more working room.

When there has been inflammation in the skin (like what happens secondary to a flea bite) the skin will sometimes change color as it heals. That area looks like it is starting to regrow hair and that the original inflammation is subsiding so I wouldn't be concerned. It is recommended to use at least 4 months of consistent flea prevention to fully eradicate fleas or all year round if Lynx is an outdoor cat. A high quality flea preventative like Frontline plus, Revolution or Advantage should be used.

I wouldn't have a concern about Advantage for felines, especially if Cheeto has had it before. Sometimes the feeling of the medication on their skin can feel weird, and we apply it in an area so that they can't easily groom it off, which could cause some anxiety. Keep an eye on Cheeto and if he isn't back to normal in a day or two, have him examined by your vet.

This is probably due to a severe allergy, although it could also be fleas or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat her with a high quality flea treatment (e.g. advantage), then get her to the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try discovering the cause of the allergy. You did exactly the right thing by washing off Odin and Toby right away. Continue to monitor them, and if you see any additional signs of toxicity such as muscle tremors, vomiting, diarrhea, depression and incoordination, I would take them into an ER vet right away. Poor guy. It sounds like he had a bad reaction to the Activyl. In cases of allergic reacitons you have to get him treated with a steroid shot +/- antihistamine shot to stop the reaction from continuing. Also you should wash the product off immediately to remove the stimulus. I would recommend bathing with a gentle dawn soap and then follow up with a cat friendly oatmeal based shampoo and a hot spot spray from your local pet store. Don’t put this spray on the face area and avoid the eyes. I am sorry your cat is having such a bad reaction. Hopefully this can help alleviate some of the irritation until his vet visit on Friday. This doesn’t sound life threatening, especially if he is otherwise eating, drinking and energy level is good. I would also consider getting his appt moved to an earlier date to get him some relief sooner. Best of luck with Sam and his skin and it’s best to avoid using this product in the future. Hi and thank you for your question on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Unfortunately Advantage Multi is not labeled for use in cases of chewing lice. It is indicated for fleas, ear mites, heart worm prevention, hookworms and roundworms in cats which may explain why they are still itching. Frontline Plus is a good topical treatment that covers fleas, ticks, and chewing lice. In order not to overload their systems, I would wait until 9/26/2017 to apply the Frontline Plus if you believe it is chewing lice, although I would have a veterinarian diagnosis this first. They may be itching because they have a flea allergy and sometimes when the fleas die off after product administration this can cause itching. I would wait and see if the itching decreases in a few days with the advantage multi and if not, have them seen by a veterinarian. Best wishes to you and Neko!
