My cat's flea bite mark turned dark. Is this a normal healing sign?

As long as Orien does not seem bothered by this, & the skin does not turn an angry red, nor any disruption of the skin or fur occur, she should be just fine. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This may still be normal after a spider bite. However, something like an abscess or a growth cannot be ruled out just by looking at it. I would recommend you continue the course. However, if this gets worse such as getting larger, I recommend you consider having it sampled to make sure he is not developing anything else. Not all flea medications are equal. I find that fipronil/Frontline products don't work very well. I would recommend that you talk to your vet about a prescription product like Bravecto or Revolution, or try a Seresto collar. Fighting cat fleas is tough, and even with excellent products, it may take 3 or more months to get rid of the fleas due to their life cycle and new fleas hatching. See the articles below. That being said, overgrooming (hair loss) and black skin (caused by chronic inflammation) can be caused by many things. Food allergies are possible, but Rengar is more likely to be allergic to chicken or beef than grains. Anxiety or pain are other possible causes. Sometimes animals need a course of steroids and/or antibiotics to clear up the skin after fleas. Feel free to repost with the pictures! I hope this helps and I wish Indigo the best!

Poor Freckle! Without seeing a photo or completing a physical exam, it’s hard to know why this is happening. Pets can get red marks on the skin due to flea bites, environmental allergy, food allergy, contact allergy or hyperthyroidism. Red marks could also indicate bruising which is much more serious and significant. Bruising indicates platelet abnormalities and this can be fatal without treatment. Since you are noticing the issue is so widespread, I recommend to have him examined by his veterinarian today ideally. It’s always best to play it safe. Those spots look like normal healing after a mild skin infection or irritation. I would continue to just keep an eye on it. If the spots seem to be multiplying, turn much darker, or turn red, then you may want to have Benito rechecked by your vet. They should continue to get lighter and go away over the next week or two.

Yes, it could be due to a flea allergy. The black you are seeing is post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. I would not be overly worried about that. The lesion looks very quiet now. I would continue with the Seresto collar and if you notice this recurring or happening in another location I would have him seen by your vet for an exam.
