Are pet pheromone diffusers harmful or toxic? What are the alternatives?

Calming pheromone collars (Adaptil is one example) can be quite beneficial for some dogs and may not cause any changes in behavior/anxiety/stress in other dogs. The hard part with these products is that their efficacy for your individual dog is only established through trial and error. They are certainly not harmful, provided that you follow all directions on the packaging. Plug in pheromone diffusers are also available if you feel more comfortable using these products rather than a collar and can have a similar effect.

Unfortunately I can't find any information on whether or not Adaptil is harmful either. My feeling is that there is probably minimal concern, but it is hard to know how caustic or irritating the carrier agent for the Adaptil might be. I presume that you are talking about pheromone diffusers. The diffusers are completely different pheromones and will not interact with each other in any way. Pheromones are species specific, so they will not affect another species. The cat pheromone should help calm a cat and will not have any effect on a dog. The dog pheromone should help calm a dog, but will not have any effect on a cat. A pheromone collar, such as the Adaptil collar, may help decrease anxiety. Gradual desensitization is also strongly recommended. Calming chews, such as Composure chews (by VetriScience) may help but they are not "magic pills". You will need to modify her behavior. This may require the assistance of a certified trainer.

Yes, there are things you can use! I recommend a Sentry calming collar. It releases calming pheromones when in contact with a dog's skin. You can also use DAP diffuser, which releases these calming pheromones. Calming chews may also be an option for Bentley. I hope this helps!

Give it a couple months of consistent use to see if it helps before resorting to other stronger treatments like medications/drugs.
